Benjamin nodded. He was wondering how he was going to explain Tim's absence to Arissa.

Zachary glanced at him. “Are you thinking about Tim not being able to see Mommy?”

Benjamin cast the boy a side glance filled with approval. “Have you thought of an excuse?”

Zachary's eyes glinted mischievously. “No! It's all on you!”

Kingsley and Shaun were amused by the antics of the father-and-son duo.

“I think Arissa would buy any excuse you give her, Boss,” Kingsley teased with a grin.

Benjamin rolled his eyes at him. “Help me think of something,” he muttered.

Kingsley smiled. “I wouldn't dare. It'd be better if you came up with something on your own lest you
blame me if it doesn't work.”

“Hmph!” Benjamin scoffed.

He stayed a little longer in the ward, then stepped outside to give Gavin a call.



“When are you coming over to the hospital? Don't go straight to Mommy when you get here. Bring
Zachary with you. If she asks about Tim, tell her that Grandpa took him to a gathering.”

After giving Gavin a set of explicit instructions, Benjamin told him to relay it to the others.

“Got it. How's Tim doing?” Gavin asked over the phone.

“He's doing much better. You can see for yourself when you get here.”

After reminding his son to come earlier, Benjamin hung up, then called his father.

As Darius was still unaware of what had happened to the children, Benjamin filled him in.

Darius was livid. “God d*mn that b*stard.”

“Remember, you took Tim to a gathering if Arissa asks,” Benjamin reminded his father, not having the
time to soothe the latter.

“Is that Grandpa on the line?” came Zachary's voice. Benjamin turned around and found the boy at the
door.

Benjamin nodded. “Yes.”

Zachary pursed his lips in disapproval. “Aren't you worried that Grandpa might fall ill from anger at the
news?”



“He would want to know the whole story, and it makes no difference if we tell him now or later. Besides,
we need him to play along tonight.”

Benjamin was not worried about Darius. Since he had informed the latter after the incident and that he
was no longer worried about Tim, he was feeling much more at ease.

“Mommy will scold you if she finds out,” Zachary harrumphed.

Benjamin glanced at his son. He had the distinct feeling that the boy was relishing the possibility of a
show.

“She won't find out if you don't say a word.”

Zachary stared at him. “Are you sure?”
