Chapter 2: running for my life

The sky is clear and the moonlight is shining on the dark night sky. I'm running through the woods, I'm
covered in dirt and blood. While I am running for my life I can feel the twigs that scratch and cut all over
my body.

I jump over rocks and overturned tree trunks. I dodge the branches that are scrambled everywhere. I
tried to avoid them but some scratch my skin and make more cuts all over my body that leaves a blood
trail and an easier way to track me down. I noticed that in some places the ground is wet, I stumble and
fall to the ground and get more dirt all over my body. My clothes (more like rags) get more and more
torn with every fall. Everytime I fall I push myself up and start running again, trying to push myself even
further away from my living nightmare.

Not far behind me I can hear wolves howling and growling. I can hear when their paws hit the ground
while chasing me throughout the woods. It's not easy to run away from wolves, they have an incredible
speed, hearing, and they can track a scent. And I know they are tracking my scent now, thanks to the
forest it made it easier for them to track me because of my blood trail.

I just escaped years of abuse and torture from my own father. My father is the alpha of the Moonlit
Howlers, I'm the oldest child of two children but I'm the only one that still is alive and my name is Aleera
Hawks and I'm 16 years old.

I've been told a few years back that I looked like my mother. I had her light blue eye color and the same
long dark blond hair. I was 5.6 feet tall, and I had a slim figure, but for the last few years I have become
anorexic. I looked more like skin and bones but thanks to the werewolf gene I still looked better then if I
was a normal human. If I would have been a human I would probably be dead.

My father and his pack are hunting me down right this moment and a female wolf can't shift before she
meets her mate, but we have our wolf inside us and we can talk to them. We do have some stronger
abilities than a human. Like we can run faster but once shift we can run even faster.



Would you believe me if I told you that my pack was once peaceful and only killed to protect the pack.
But everything changed after the rogue attack at our border that killed my mother and my younger
brother.

After the attack, my father and the pack changed completely and started to kill everything in their way,
other packs, and even humans, I was the only one that did not change.

Every fiber in my body feels like it is on fire and I can feel that I don't have the strength to keep running,
but I push myself to keep on going till I lose them. I can hear that they are gaining on me and I try to
run faster.

I can feel that my body is out of energy, my speed is slowing down, and my vision is getting blurry.

'Aleera you have to keep on going, we can't get caught and be brought back.' my wolf told me
throughout our mind link.

'Pixie, I know but I can't run anymore, I can't run away from them.’

I stumbled and fell on the ground. I decided at that moment to just give up and wait for my father's pack
to find me and to take me back against my will. I can hear that they are closing in on me. I'm starting to
drift in and out of consciousness when I see that I'm surrounded by my father’s pack members.

I can see with my blurry vision that one has shifted back to his human form, but I don't know who he is.
He is screaming at me then I recognize the voice, it’s Nicholas's voice, and he is furious. I can feel that
he is kicking me over and over again. I feel the pain in my stomach and back. He grabbed a fist full of
my hair and pulled it. I screamed out. He slams my face down in the ground, I can feel that my nose is
broken, I know I will heal but it will take time. He kicked me again and I rolled to my back, he positioned
himself on me and landed some punches on my face. While he hits me I don't register that someone



has torn my pants off me. I only registered it when I felt the pain from forced intercourse. Some of the
other pack members hold my arms over my head and two others are holding my legs.

"I will get you back for what you did to me. Do you think you can escape us? You can't and we will not
allow it" he whispers in my ear in a creepy voice.

I feel him pushing himself into me over and over again every time more tears are leaving my eyes. I am
screaming so he tries to silence my screams by putting his hand over my mouth. I don't know how long
it goes on for until I feel him release his load inside me. I rolled over to my left side and had tears rolling
down my face, I started to lose my consciousness yet again.

Just when I thought it was over I felt pain on my shoulder and I knew that one of the wolves had bitten
me. I scream out with the last of the air I had left in my lungs. My wolf howls in pain in my head, and I
start to lose more of my consciousness when I feel a strong aura and I hear what sounds like a fight
going on but I can't open my eyes to see who is fighting. I'm totally gone. I just want to die and see my
mother and brother again.

I don't know how I could hear but I could. The fight was over and I waited for the last hit that would kill
me. But instead, I feel the ground disappears under my body and it feels like I'm flying. At the same
time, I feel strong arms and warmth around me and I drift off into the darkness. I don't know who is
carrying me or where they are taking me. I have no idea how much time has passed but I hope I will be
safe from my father just for a little while until I have the energy to start running again, far away from him
and the way he has treated me for 5 years.
