Chapter 13

Alyssa froze as soon as she heard the voice. She glanced at the phone screen. It was still an unknown
number. But she did not need to think that it was the voice of “Justin.”

Alyssa frowned. Why was he calling her? Hadn’t he left yet? It’s always noon.

“Why haven’t you left yet?”

The reply she got was the sound of the call being terminated.

Alyssa looked at the black screen in disbelief. He hung up on her? She was so frustrated that she held
her head and squatted down.

Did everyone take the oath to make things difficult for her?

Aurora and Jason gave birth to her but didn’t love her.

She was forced to marry into the Lawrence family. Her husband, Emmett, hated her so much that he
refused to see her.

holes on the corner of her shirt. It looked like she had been wearing them for years.

For someone who was related to Moore family, she was living a hard life compared to her other
siblings.

His new bride was really… extremely miserable.

But Alyssa did not care about his thoughts at all and took the groceries to the small kitchen.

This was not the first time after all. It was always the same. People had only two reactions when they
saw her. They’d either looked at her sympathy or rolled their eyes in disgust. She was already used to
this even though it hurt her many times.

After an hour of work, Alyssa finally brought the dishes out. She set the plates on the table and looked
at him. “Dinner’s ready.”

Emmett put down his cell phone and looked at the dishes. The dishes she made were not as fancy as
he was used to eat but it looked quite appetizing. It was perfect for a recovering patient. He stared the



dishes for a long time before taking a bite.

Alyssa didn’t bother with him and started to eat herself. She had to admit that today the food she
cooked was especially delicious.

Just as she took a mouthful of rice, she glanced at the man beside her. She realized that after eating a
few mouthfuls, “Justin’s” face had darkened immensely. His expression turned extremely sullen and
gloomy.

Her heart skipped a beat.

What was going on?

She looked at the dishes she made. Did her dishes offend this young master?

Emmett’s expression was very gloomy. He put down the bowl and chopsticks, stood up and left the
apartment with big strides, before she could speak anything.

Her steps were long and steady. He didn’t look like a man who had been shot yesterday or still
recovering. This man had a strong pain tolerance than she thought.

Alyssa was curious about why this man suddenly left like this. But on the second thought he was not a
good person either. So she endured her curiosity and didn’t follow him out. Instead she focused on the
bowl of rich in front of her.

Emmett put in hands on the pocket and desperately searching for a cigarette. He finally remembered
that he lost his last stick on the other day due to the gunshot and now he didn’t have any more left.

“Fuck.” He clenched his fist tightly as his nails dug deeper into his palm. The flashes of the simple food
radiated in his mind.

The familiar taste of the dishes reminded him of his mother.

Though his elegant and refined mother was born into a rich family, she was gentle and virtuous. She
loved to cook and prepare the soups for him.

“Someday, you’ll find a woman who’ll do all these things for you.” She used to say this to him every
day.

When he thought about the damp and dirty basement, he could only grit his teeth in frustration and
hatred. He clenched his fists and punched the wall with a “Bang!”

Even Alyssa who was in the room eating could hear it clearly.

Her chopsticks paused in the air as she looked at the direction of the noise. Although she was hesitant,
she still put the chopsticks and bowl down and rushed outside, “What’s wrong? What happened?”
