The man did not want to let go of Gloria, who he saw as his savior.
He clung to her hand, despite her increasing annoyance.
This man was about fifty, but he was still abrupt to the point of rudeness!

Just then, someone saw the commotion and cried out in anger, “What are you doing!”
The voice belonged to a man, who was quickly joined by several others who rushed over and
surrounded Gloria.
The man who had shouted at her initially spoke again, “Do you know where you are now? Do you know
who he is?”
The voice was familiar to Gloria, and she turned to see the same person who had scolded her earlier.
She noticed the cold look in his eyes and the warning they held.
The man who had fallen to the ground was getting up slowly, but didn’t offer any explanation.
Obviously, he was acquiescing to the man’s rebuke to her.

He was curious about Gloria’s identity, as he was a friend of Harvie and had never seen Gloria at the
casino before.
But from Violet’s protective gesture, the man immediately perceived that the young girl in front of him
might be Gloria who was rumored to be with Harvie.She was the niece that Harvie once talked about!
After realizing this, the man was filled with regret for his behavior and for not stopping his men from
surrounding Gloria.
He asked, “Where is Mr. Ferber?”
