Song Qingchun nodded blankly, her feet frozen to the spot. This is such a coincidence; how did he know I need disposable lingerie and have a hankering for ice cream?
Su Zhinian noticed her lack of reaction. He flipped through another page of the newspaper and commented softly, "It's already quite late. Go rest after you take the bath."
Song Qingchun responded with a "hmm" before adding an "okay" and finally a "thank you" before she ran into the bathroom, hugging the bag.
After she came out of the shower, she blow-dried her hair and got into the pajamas bought by Su Zhinian. She jumped onto the bed, and with her legs folded underneath her, she opened the Haagen Danz carton. Right then, the bedroom door was pushed open and in walked Su Zhinian with a cup of milk.
Even though it was Song Qingchun who requested for Su Zhinian to stay in the same room, and she had prepared to share the same bed with him, when it was happening in real time, she was still quite nervous, so much so that she was unable to open the carton lid despite her multiple attempts.
Su Zhinian placed the cup on the study table and grabbed the carton from her wordlessly. He pried it open and returned it her.
Song Qingchun replied with a soft "thank you" before accepting it and scooping the ice-cream into her mouth with a small spoon.
Su Zhinian did not reply as he turned to the wardrobe to pull out the spare pillow and comforter inside.
Song Qingchun silently sighed in relief. Thankfully, he knew to retrieve his own stuff; this made Song Qingchun feel more comfortable about sharing the same bed because at least they wouldn't sharing the same comforter.
Su Zhinian arranged the comforter on the bed. He was reaching for his pillow when he saw Song Qingchun stick another big scoop of ice-cream into her mouth. He frowned slightly and walked to pick up the cup he left on the table. He walked to Song Qingchun and commented lightly, "Don't eat too much ice-cream in the middle of the night, be careful of acid reflux."
"Okay." Song Qingchun pouted and shoved another spoonful into her mouth before placing the carton on the bedside table.
Su Zhinian passed Song Qingchun the cup. "Drink some warm milk and don't stay up too late."
She had thought he'd poured the milk for himself, but it was actually for her.
After a short daze, Song Qingchun accepted the cup with another "thank you."
The warmth from the cup travelled along her palm and then her chest before finding its way to her heart.
Su Zhinian did not say another word but stacked the pillow he had pulled out of the wardrobe on top of the comforter before pulling them up together and heading toward the bedroom door.
