Chapter 2: Sarcasm and Supercilious Look

One day, Gu Yan returns to the Wen family. Just entering the hall, she finds that the desk is full of prize cups and merit certificates won by Wen Yunfeng in childhood. One old lady holds the hands of a girl aged over twenty and smiles from ear to ear.
“Grandma, Brother Yunfeng has been so outstanding since childhood.” The girl holds one cup and her eyes are full of worship.
The old lady smiles kindly. “Ho Ho, Mu, Feng has been very clever since childhood. Moreover, he also takes good care of people. You will know this if you get along with him in the future. Your child…”
The two are chatting happily, without noticing that Gu Yan has come.
Child? Gu Yan is rather frustrated, and she is about to ask. The steward by the side reminds in a hurry: “Lady.”

On hearing this, the old lady stops, and she eventually finds Gu Yan standing at the gate.

Gu Yan stands in the original site awkwardly and tries to smile: “Grandma, I know Yunfeng has returned from abroad today. I didn’t meet him in the company, so I come back to see if he has come back.”
On hearing Gu Yan calling her, the old lady stands up all of a sudden and she stares at Gu Yan venomously, screaming: “Don’t call me grandma. Who is your grandma? Get out of here.”
Gu Yan stands in situ with a gift box. She wants to explain but she doesn’t know how.
The girl who is always looking Gu Yan up and down asks suddenly: “Grandma, who is she?”
The old lady pats her hand. She speaks in a more gentle voice, but with still venomous words: “Just one dirty loose woman. Mu, don’t look at her. She will dirty your eyes.”
“OK!” The girl darts a look at Gu Yan who is still rigid in the original place and nods her head obediently.
Gu Yan pinches the ribbon of the gift box, lowers her head and keeps silent. Bitter and grievance melt in her heart slowly.
“Why are you still here?” The old lady shouts. On seeing that Gu Yan still lowers her head and stands in situ, she pulls up the girl in a huff, “Let’s go. We clean person should keep away from her dirty body.”
When passing by Gu Yan, she deliberately takes the girl to detour far away and covers her nose. It seems that Gu Yan has been infected with some virus or pestilence.
Gu Yan is still rigid in the original site. Despite of the full tears in her eyes, she raises her head stubbornly to flow back the tears into sockets.
She has clearly paid a lot for the Wen family, but why she has to suffer from such grievance and sneer? She can’t understand.
In the two years, since her uterine younger sister: Liu Lanfei disclosed her pregnancy and parturition, she has suffered a lot of sarcasm and scornful look.
She really wants to tell them the truth. However, she has signed an agreement with Mo Yichen and she should keep confidential the event, so as to give his child a quiet growth environment, otherwise, he could take measures to attack the Wen family.
For Wen Yunfeng, she could even surrogate for others. How could she endure hurting Wen Yunfeng like this? Therefore, Gu Yan always keeps silent for this, and others gradually have a deeper misunderstanding of her.
Eventually, everyone has confirmed that she is a wanton. Nobody believes in her even if she wants to explain for herself.
The steward shakes the head and makes a sigh. He walks forward and takes over the gift box.
He looks at Gu Yan with sympathy, and he can’t help to remind her: “Young lady. That girl is the granddaughter of the old lady’s friend. The old lady…seems to admit her into the Wen family.”
Gu Yan tries hard to smile: “Grandpa steward, I don’t mind others’ opinions. I care Yunfeng only.”
The steward still bears her kindness in memory because Gu Yan sent him the activating oil in the night when he fell and hurt himself last time. He says with sincere words and earnest wishes: “Young lady, you have to make more efforts. As long as the childe doesn’t admit, no others can replace you.”
“OK. I will!” Gu Yan nods her head with strength. Thinking of the pleasant chatting situation between the girl and the old lady, she can’t help asking: “Has Yunfeng…come back?”
The steward smiles: “Not yet. But the childe called before and he said he would come back soon.”
“All right.” Gu Yan is excited to red cheeks. The missing is the most painful. Since Wen Yunfeng started to develop subsidiary corporations out of the city, she almost hasn’t seen him.
“OK, grandpa steward, I will wait upstairs. Please call me when Yunfeng comes back.”
“OK!” The old steward answers in smiles.
The room is simply decorated. The hollow bookshelf and the engraved dresser are old objects she saw in childhood. After so many years, they are still the same as the ones in her memory.
She sits on the woodcutting bed and watches the familiar decoration in front of her. Her thoughts float away.
She was originally a girl in the countryside. Soon after she was told to have a husband and son prospering fate by an old Taoist priest, she was delivered to the Wen family and had an identity of a child bride.
They are childhood sweetheart and find each other congenial. She grows up under the care of Wen Yunfeng. They have met for thousands of days and nights. Her deep love for Wen Yunfeng is accumulated in these days.
However, Wen Yunfeng is extremely cold to her and seldom contacts her in the two years. But she forever remembers his caring.
She still remembers that the dry leaf under the drawer in the dresser is the one Wen Yunfeng protects her head and pulls her running in heavy rain.
The candies in the jewel case…are used by Wen Yunfeng to comfort her when she tumbles and cries.
The rubber bands in the bedside table are used by Wen Yunfeng to cheer her up when she is ill.
She could remember all these. But it seems that Wen Yunfeng has forgotten…
He dislikes her and avoids her.
But she still loves him deeply.
The cellphone rings happily to break Gu Yan’s memory. On seeing the number of the coming call, she is excited and delighted, her heart is beating very fast. Yunfeng calls her actively.
After a deep breath, Gu Yan presses the answer key solemnly.
“Hi, Yun…”
Just the first two words, her cheerful sound is interrupted by the cold voice: “Where are you?”
“Ah?” Wen Yunfeng’s frozen and distant tone is just as the cold water spilling over her head. After coming to sense, she answers blankly: “at, at home.”
Gu Yan feels a bit bitter in her mouth. It seems that she is still habitual to the warm and elegant sound, intoxicating her like the violoncello.
“I have ordered a necklace in Xifu Jewelry. Go to take it. I will wait for you in Room 604 in Hai Shang Lan Tian Hotel. Tell grandma I will not come back today.”
Not come back? Will they stay in the hotel overnight?
Gu Yan stares blankly at the phone that has been hanged, thinking about the words of Wen Yunfeng. Red glows gradually fly to her cheeks, and finally, her entire neck and ears turn red.
