Chapter 20: Scheme

Without knowing that she had been exposed, Carrie hung up the phone covering her mouth with a
smirk. She seemed to have seen herself dressed in a white wedding dress and marry into a wealthy
family with a house filled with gold and silver jewelry.

When she went back to the house, she found Alfred sitting on the sofa. He was holding his head,
looking uncomfortable. Thinking of what the woman said on the phone, Carrie felt that she got the
chance.

"Alfred, you finally came back. I regret it after you left. I shouldn't have upset you by telling you that
Noah bullied me. I'm sorry, please forgive me." Carrie acted coquettishly and said in a sweet voice.
This move used to work every single time.

Alfred replied nonchalantly and pushed Carrie away. Then he went back to the room.

Carrie opened her mouth wide, wondering if Alfred was still angry. What kind of man was he when he
lashed out in front of her after being bullied outside?

She wanted to complain but worried that Alfred would be annoyed.

"Forget it, I will bear it again!" Carrie murmured unwillingly.

Alfred in the bedroom was still thinking about what happened just now. Didn't he give enough things to
her? Why did Carrie care about money so much? She even conspired with others to plan to seize his
property.

This feeling of being betrayed by his lover made Alfred feel very complicated. He thought of Lauren



again.

When Lauren was with him, she never mentioned any money or asked for any expenses. Of course, he
never gave it to her. Faint guilt swept over him.

"Alfred, I've made dinner for you!" Carrie deliberately wore a transparent lace dress, looking very
seductive.

He thought, "Carrie, is this also one of your plans?"

Alfred glanced at her casually, shook his head, and said that he didn't want to eat. He then pushed
Carrie away silently, covering his head and falling asleep.

Carrie was stunned. She didn't expect Alfred to be so indifferent to her. She took the initiative to come
to him after she dressed specially for him. Looking at Alfred who was already asleep, Carrie gritted her
teeth and thought, "Don't blame me for being unkind if you are doing this to me."

"Carrie, are you still reluctant to give up?"

Alfred, who had already fallen asleep, opened his eyes suddenly. Carrie had put on her clothes and
went out with her phone. Perhaps she was conspiring with others how to take away his property again.

"Carrie, Lauren, which one of you really loves me?"

Without sleeping all night, Alfred woke up early. He felt depressed and thought that he had to use work
to numb himself.



After arriving at the company for some preparations, Alfred drove to the collective auction. This time he
took a fancy to a project that benefited the people, thinking that he could win money and reputation all
at once.

Alfred was confident that he could win the project in one fell swoop. He went to the auction in high
spirits and unexpectedly discovered that Ms. Jones was one of those competing with him.

Lauren noticed someone staring at her and smiled brightly, "Isn't this Mr. Kent? Are you ready to turn
the tide?"

After being provoked, Alfred remained silent, just thinking that he would show this woman the project
that he won later.

"Alfred, just wait and see!" Lauren looked at Alfred being so confident next to her and smiled
mysteriously.

She had this expression again as if everything were under her control.

The result of the auction astounded Alfred. The project was taken away by the woman again. He had
already offered the highest price. Why did that company choose that woman?

"Mr. Kent, thank you for the bidding!" Lauren took the contract she had just signed, raised her
eyebrows, and smiled provocatively at Alfred who was sitting on the spot after everyone had left.

"What scheme did you use to steal my project?" After two rounds, Alfred no longer underestimated the
woman in front of him. He was caught off guard last time, but this time he was fully prepared. Why did



he still lose to this woman?

Alfred squinted and stared at the woman, predicting if the woman would say something aggressive.

Looking at Alfred being alert, Lauren found it funny. He didn't even bother to look at her in the past, but
now he had to study her.

She thought, "Alfred, if you were willing to take time to know me, you would know that my business
acumen was not inferior to you. As long as you are willing to value me a little bit, I will never go against
you."

Thinking of him abandoning her for a mistress, and even murdering their child, Lauren pulled herself
back from her grief.

"Aren't you curious why they would rather choose someone whose price is lower than yours? Here—
this is the reason!" Lauren nonchalantly took out an official document from her bag and handed it to the
angry man.

Alfred took a look at the document. The cold sweat suddenly fell from the top of his head. He flipped
through a few pages. It got every detail.

"Is this your scheme?" Alfred threw the document at Lauren and yelled.

Lauren dodged, letting the document fall to the ground. It was blown by the wind, leaving a clear view
of Alfred's financial status.
