Chapter 29: It&##x27;s Not That Easy

Lauren noticed the gaze on her and didn't say a word. She just glanced at Alfred with concern and let
out a long sigh of relief when she saw that he finally woke up.

Alfred was already content as he caught sight of Lauren's expression.

He said to himself, "Lauren, I really changed!"

Carrie also saw the interaction between the two. She started to panic. Initially, she thought Alfred just
couldn't forget his dead wife. She didn't expect that they even showed their affection to each other right
in front of her.

No, she couldn't accept it. She was only one step away from being Alfred's wife. She couldn't be pulled
back at this point.

"Alfred, are you angry because I didn't come to see you in the first place? I'm sorry. I'm also busy with
my own business. I promise I'll stay with you in the next few days." Carrie acted like usual and just lay
down in Alfred's arms like a little princess.

But now Alfred wouldn't be fooled by this anymore. The moment Carrie pressed on him, his wound
gaped.

"Get off," Alfred's voice was not loud but it made Carrie's heart skip a beat. Alfred had never been so
harsh to her.

"Alfred, I..."



Carrie swallowed hard, "What am I doing wrong? I have been with you for so long. I have been done so
many things for you. Do you have to be so heartless when this woman comes back?" Carrie said in an
aggrieved and bitter voice. Even Lauren was almost fooled and felt sorry for her.

If he hadn't heard of Carrie conspiring to seize his property, he might have been deceived all the time.

"I heard you calling someone on the phone," He said in a soft voice but it made Carrie's face turn pale
instantly.

"You knew it all along?" Carrie shivered suddenly. She felt like she was a clown just now.

Alfred closed his eyes, recalling what Carrie had done. He felt rather disappointed. "In my drawer, there
is a recording of you betraying me with my confidential files. The one who cooperated with you is
Lauren standing right in front of you."

Carrie felt that she had been struck by lightning. At first, she was angry that Alfred was indifferent to
her, so she sold his documents on impulse. At that time, there was a person who offered a generous
amount of money. She indulged in the joy of huge wealth, so she didn't even notice the trick.

Lauren had set a trap for her.

"Lauren, you are so despicable!" Carrie was exposed and didn't care about her image in front of Alfred
anymore. She pointed at Lauren and cursed loudly.

Lauren turned around and glanced at her, which made Carrie shudder.



"You said I was despicable. Have you ever considered that you are too stupid? If it weren't for your own
greed, how could you get the bait?" Lauren glanced at Alfred and found that his face was a little pale.
As she was about to call a doctor, she was pulled by Carrie.

"Bitch, don't you dare separate me and Alfred. You are framing me!" She cursed fiercely and turned to
look at Alfred as her eyes were filled with tears. "Alfred, did you hear that? This bitch set me up."

"Carrie, I don't want to see you now. For the sake of our past, I won't accuse you." Alfred didn't want to
speak to Carrie anymore. He just wanted to see Lauren more when he could.

"Carrie, you won't get away from this!" Noah came into the room suddenly, followed by two police
officers holding silver handcuffs.

Carrie's face went extremely pale. It seemed that they had known that she was the one that drove the
car and crashed them. What should she do?

She felt an extreme panic that she had never felt before. She looked at Alfred with a cry for help.

"What happened? Why do you want to catch Carrie?" Although Alfred doesn't love Carrie anymore, he
doesn't want to see her being caught innocently. But the reason why the police caught Carrie made him
completely disappointed.

"We found through the camera that the person who hit you was Carrie Green. Carrie, please come with
us."

"Alfred, save me. Please save me. I was wrong. Save me," Carrie wailed, clutched the door, and
refused to let go until she was taken into the police car. Alfred didn't take a glance at her.



Alfred was really let down by her. He let out a long sigh. Lauren stood in front of him and handed him a
glass of water, blowing it cool carefully. Her caring gave Alfred a little comfort.

"Lauren, even if I'm gone, you have to live happily in this world," Alfred said with a smile.

Lauren felt that something was off, "Alfred, what are you talking about? The doctor said you wouldn't
have any problem after the operation." Lauren suddenly remembered that the doctor just pointed at
Alfred and didn’t say anything. He didn't say if he would recover or not.

"Lauren, don't leave. Let me hug you." Alfred raised his hand laboriously, his fingers becoming pale.

Lauren quickly put down the quilt and held Alfred's hand. The cold of his hand startled her.

However, Alfred's hand fell on the bed before it could touch Lauren's cheek.

"Doctor, come here. Anyone?" Lauren exclaimed. Soon someone took Alfred to ICU again.

"Ma'am, I'm sorry, we are really doing our best. The patient just woke up after being stimulated. We will
try our best to treat him."

Lauren understood that Alfred just worked so hard to protect her. Why didn't he protect her until she
grew old?

Lauren said to herself, "You messed up my life. Do you want to leave again? It's not that easy."
