He spoke too soon, for he remained idle while everyone else—especially Lola—at the table was
beginning to trade cards faster than he had expected. Lola looked like she was more than ready to
show her hand, and she believed Cindy and the attendant were ready as well. Logan was the only one
who seemed reluctant, and her heart went out to him.

Meanwhile, Cindy had come into the game with the presumption that Logan was a card shark through
