Chapter 1498 It Has Been a Tiring Night

The chief guard hurriedly said, "There is a declining family surnamed Don in our capital. The head of
the family is an honest person and only has one daughter. He now runs a small business. Back then, I
heard that his wife was pregnant with twins. Unfortunately, the boy was unborn. However, worrying

Xander and Audrey found Davon's body in the peripheral forest. The body was damaged and shattered

Xander staggered and almost fell.

that Davon had taken with him before he left.

Audrey felt painful to see him haggard.

"Xander, don't do this."

Xander's eyes were filled with tears.

A grave sadness enveloped them. Nicole and Lucas staggered over.

"Mom! Dad! Where's my husband? Where's my brother? When are they coming back? Has Laurence
found him?"

Her question stunned Xander.

Right, Samuel came with Davon.



Davon's entourage was all dead, but Samuel's body wasn't found. Xander forgot about Samuel.

Looking at his daughter's worried face, Xander felt his heart ached in pain.

"I'll send someone out to look for him."

"I'll go too!"

Nicole took the lead but was stopped by Audrey.

"You can't go, considering your health condition. Besides, now Laurence is a time bomb that no one
knows when he explodes. It's our mistake not foreseeing the possibility that Laurence can't control
himself from going berserk. Nicole, listen to your mother. Don't go out."

"But both my husband and my brother are out there. How can I stay here and wait?"

Nicole's eyes were filled with tears.

Xander was batting back tears. He said, "Davon left us."

"What do you mean...'left us'?"

Nicole stared at Xander. But Xander was even unable to look straight back at her surprised gaze.

"He's dead."

"Dad! Don't joke around."

Nicole whispered, which made Xander feel even more painful in his heart.

"I'll go and bring back Davon's body."

Xander walked out.



Nicole fainted immediately.

"Nicole!"

Audrey was worried and hurriedly called a doctor to check on her. Lucas stayed beside Nicole, not for
one second turning his eyes away from her.

Half an hour later, Xander returned without Davon's body. When he was there, all the bodies were
dragged away, leaving behind long bloodstains as if someone deliberately cleaned them up.

His entourage brought back the injured and unconscious Samuel.

Samuel's arms and thighs were scratched badly, wound bleeding. If he hadn't fainted in a small ditch
and sheltered by the bush, he would have died, too.

Xander hurriedly ordered the medical team to save his life.

The sun went up when the rescue finished.

Nicole woke up to hear that Samuel was injured and had lapsed into a coma. No one could stop her
from running into Samuel's room, which worried Audrey greatly.

Xander had to report this significant incident to his superior as the person in charge, even though he
was sad and worried about Nicole and Samuel.

When Samuel was pushed out of the emergency room, he was awake with a pale face because of
excessive blood loss.

Nicole held his hand worriedly. She tried her best to hold back her questions and looked at him with
tears in her eyes.

Seeing that Samuel was fine, Xander asked, "What exactly had happened?"



"Laurence had completely lost his mind. To calm him down, Davon fought him close. I tried to help
Davon but was beaten by Laurence. If it weren't for Davon, I am dead."

Samuel's face was terrifyingly pale as he spoke of the thrill fight scene at that time.

Xander asked reluctantly, "Davon..."

"What happened to Davon? I passed out when I hit a rock. Is Davon alright?"

Samuel's words made Xander sad again.

"You take some rest first, Samuel. Take care."

Xander left the room.

Audrey was worried about Xander, so she followed him out. Now there were only Nicole and Samuel in
the room. Nicole hurriedly asked, "Why are you injured so badly?"

"Everyone is dead. It would be weird that I'm not seriously injured."

Samuel said in a low voice that Nicole could hear and then whispered, "This is not over. Don't draw any
attention before my recovery. We will return home or the Capital City. Anyway, we're leaving the Dark
Forest."

"Can you go?"

Nicole was a little worried.

Samuel's eyes lit up, and he whispered, "I have to go. I'm the only survivor and a relative of Davon who

surprised. On the contrary, Nicole was in poor health and had just been pregnant. They didn't know for
sure when would be the next reunion.

Nicole did not expect this troublesome consequence. She couldn't help but protested, "I don't want you
to go!"

"Nicole?!"

"I just don't want to be separated from you. I want to accompany you through the investigations. I don't
believe that the superiors are unreasonable."

Nicole said angrily, which immediately made Samuel begin to laugh.

"Alright. I'm OK with years of investigations if you're with me."

"Will there be years of investigations?"

Nicole was a little stunned.

Samuel nodded and said, "That is the ideal time length. After all, this matter involves many important
secrets. We need to be as discreet as possible. So from now on, no matter what happens or will
happen to Davon, we can't and shouldn't interfere. Otherwise, we will lose."

Nicole nodded.

"Have some rest. It has been a tiring night."

Samuel patted on the sickbed. Even though she knew that he was injured, Nicole couldn't help but
climbed onto his bed and lay down in his arms.

"Samuel."



"Huh?"

"Thank you."

Nicole didn't know what else to say besides 'thank you'. Samuel smiled peacefully, then closed his eyes
and fell asleep.

Lucas quietly left the room, not bothering his parents.

He didn't know everything, but he understood what Samuel had said just now. He was afraid that he
wouldn't see Daddy and Mommy for the next year or two.

Thinking of his younger brother and sister at home, Lucas suddenly felt a great responsibility.

He quietly returned to his room and informed Mark and Mr. Shaw of this matter at once. Although he
was still young, he knew that as long as Mr. Shaw and the Don family were fine, so would be Daddy
and Mommy.
