Chapter 1728 Who Wanted to Cause Him Harm

Lucas’ eyes turned wintry.

“This still cannot prove that Yasmeen has something to do with Zoe’s disappearance.”

“How can you still protect her at a time like this? Then let me ask you, did Yasmeen tell you that she
called Zoe?”

Lucas didn’t answer Mark’s question.

“No, right? So, why didn’t she tell you? I don’t believe that she didn’t know that Zoe had gone missing.
Lucas, this isn’t as simple as you think!”

Mark stared at Lucas and said a bit mournfully, “I don’t want to intervene in your relationship matter, but
Yasmeen is not a normal person. Not to mention that she appeared in the kidnapping scene, a critical
moment. It doesn’t matter if you were careless because of her or not, this matter would be investigated
anyways. But Lucas, you are not new at this. Do I really have to tell you how grave the situation is?”

“I trust her!”

Mark was floored by Lucas’ three simple words.

He thought that Lucas and Yasmeen never got along.

But now, he didn’t know what to say to Lucas after seeing the determined look in his eyes.

“Lucas…”

“I did delete the data on the surveillance camera. I have nothing to say if the higher-ups want to punish
or fire me. I was careless, but it had nothing to do with anyone. It was just my mistake. If a sniper was
affected by other things so easily, then they shouldn’t be a sniper. Even if I get fired or have to resign, it



will be on me. But I really don’t believe that Yasmeen is behind Zoe’s disappearance. She is arrogant
and overbearing, and just like you say, she is a foreigner and has a different identity. But even so, I
believe her. I also believe that our feelings are real and mutual. I believe that she wouldn’t hurt my
family and that she didn’t tell me about why she was at the kidnapping scene, just because she didn’t
want me to be in a dilemma. Uncle Mark, Zoe isn’t a mindless and helpless girl, she can protect herself.
I think something is going on and that’s why she hasn’t contacted us until now. I believe that she isn’t
kidnapped.”

Mark suddenly had nothing to say after hearing Lucas analyze the situation acutely.

He looked at Lucas, he just stared at him.

Even though he was trying to give Lucas the pressure from an experienced supervisor, it didn’t affect
Lucas at all. Lucas was just sitting there quietly with his back straight as if he was a pine tree. Strong
and unaffected, and admirable.

“You really believe that Zoe wasn’t kidnapped?”

“How many people in the world can manage to kidnap Zoe?”

Mark had a sudden realization after listening to what Lucas said.”

The enemy might be trying to cause chaos from within.

Zoe was the precious daughter of the Green family, loved and protected by everyone of the family.
Everything would go haywire if something happened to her. But because of that, Lucas steeled his
heart and made Zoe learn some self-defense skills from him.

And now, she was one of the top kickboxers in the world. With such skills, it would be hard for someone
to kidnap her.



“Even so, let’s say Zoe is safe, but what about Yasmeen appearing…”

“I’m on it.”

“What do you mean that you’re on it? Lucas, I didn’t summon you here for you to solve this matter. Do
you really think that Morty can protect you from everything? You stay here and don’t go anywhere in
the next few days. I’ll take care of things outside. All necessities are prepared here, food and clothes
for example. I will also send someone over to check your ears. Anyways, for the time being, don’t get in
contact with Yasmeen in any way. There’s no signal here for phones or computers, so don’t think of
using your skills to plot something.”

Lucas wasn’t frustrated at all upon hearing what Mark said. He just replied casually, “Uncle Mark, you
mean that you’re locking me up?”

“Lock you up? Well, anything that floats your boat. In any case, you cannot go out. One more thing,
Penny. I heard that she is trying to make you marry her?”

“Yeah.”

Lucas wasn’t trying to keep this a secret.

Since Penny wanted it, her mother would definitely suggest this to the higher-ups. His immediate
supervisor was Morty, but somehow, Mark replaced Morty’s position for the time being.

Technically speaking, Mark and Lucas were relatives. So, Mark couldn’t be his supervisor.

Lucas didn’t really understand what was going on.

Mark felt a bit uneasy seeing how calm Lucas was.



“I know that it wouldn’t be easy to lock you up in here. But Lucas, please think about your parents and
your subordinates.”

“Okay.”

Lucas’ simple answer surprised Mark. He had a lecture readied and now he didn’t have anywhere to let
it out.

“Rest well, I’ll be taking my leave.”

“Drive safe, Uncle Mark.”

Lucas looked around the old apartment. It wasn’t huge, but it was enough for one person.

He stood up and went to the bedroom. He took a shower and lay on the bed, but he wasn’t sleepy.

There was one thing that he didn’t tell Mark.

When he was on his mission, his sniper rifle malfunctioned.

Someone damaged the front sight of the rifle!

He was indeed surprised when he saw Yasmeen at the scene, but it wasn’t enough to affect him to
accidentally shoot the hostage.

Normally, when a hostage was hurt by the sniper accidentally, the main cause would be the
malfunctioning sniper rifle. Not only the front sight was sabotaged, but the first bullet was also empty.

Everyone with common sense would know that a sniper had to get the first shot. Lucas shot twice
because the first one was an empty bullet. Because of that, the timing was messed up and the



kidnapper had their guard up. To protect the hostage, he didn’t have a choice but to fire a second time.
Though, the hostage got hurt because he fired the second time.

Who wanted to cause him harm?

He worked directly under Morty. He handled all the guns alone and not more than five people could
enter his training ground and the weapon storage area. But he didn’t want to suspect any of these five
people.

Lucas didn’t want to investigate or suspect his closest comrades. They were his teammates, they went
to war together. They trusted each other with their backs and lives, how could he suspect them?

But if it wasn’t one of them, then why would his gun get switched out?

Lucas frowned slightly.

He wanted to stop thinking for a while since he couldn’t make heads or tails of it. He wondered if
Yasmeen went back as he told her to.

He then thought about how Mark was swashbuckling him just now. Suddenly, he was smiling
unconsciously.

Since when did he stop hating her?

He didn’t really know the exact timing, but to him, the most impressionable moment was when he got
bitten by a poisonous snake during a mission in a mountainous area. The combat hospital over there
didn’t have any serum at that time, they needed to relocate some from the larger hospital. His situation
was critical, Yasmeen didn’t hesitate at all as she lowered her head and sucked the poison out from his
leg.

He was extremely bewildered.



He knew that Yasmeen liked him ever since they were young. He never liked her back, he even hated
her a bit. But he didn’t know why he hated her. Maybe she was just not his cup of tea.

Yet Yasmeen was like a stubborn cockroach, she kept appearing before his eyes. When he was on a
mission, she would be waiting outside of the mission area. When she saw him return safely, she would
smile brightly like an idiot even though he always gave her the stink eye.

Lucas then realized that he really admired her determination. Ever since they were about four or five
years old, she would follow him around. Until now, she would still do the same even though it had been
many years. She would die for him, how could someone like her want to harm him? Why would she
harm his family?
