With Samuel’s help, Nicole arrived at the hospital of the military region.

Initially, Nicole had thought that Lucas was seriously injured. She trotted to the operation room but was
told that there were no operations today.

Noticing how nervous Nicole was, Samuel asked his men to check Lucas’s ward number. Then he took
Nicole over.

In the past fifteen years, Nicole had always spent some time with Lucas every year. Every time, he
looked spirited and confident. However, at this moment, she found his eyes without any focus. She
burst into tears.

Lucas, in his twenties, had inherited the excellent look and determination from his father. He was
almost six feet two. Standing in front of the French window, he was peering out of the window. Nicole
and Samuel didn’t know where his wound was, but Nicole couldn’t help shedding tears.

“Lucas, where’s your injury? Show me.”

Nicole directly stood in front of Lucas and pulled him.

Her heart skipped a beat. Immediately, she reached out and waved her hand in front of his eyes.

“Lucas, say something. Don’t scare me! Lucas!”

Samuel saw Nicole was crying, but Lucas seemed to have heard nothing or seen nothing. He looked
so isolated in his own space. Samuel was also panicked.

“You brat! You scared your mother to cry!”

Samuel kicked Lucas on his leg.



He used much strength, which brought Lucas back to his senses.

When seeing how worried Nicole looked, he was touched.

“Why are you here, Mom?”

“I heard you got injured. Where is your wound?”

Nicole looked at Lucas up and down carefully but failed to find his injury. She felt more worried.

She wondered if his injury was in a place that she couldn’t see.

As she thought, she wanted to take off Lucas’s clothes. However, Samuel stopped him.

“Hurry up and speak. Where is your injury? Don’t make your mother worried!”

Lucas was already in his twenties. How could Samuel let Nicole undress him?

That would be pretty embarrassing.

Lucas, however, was still in a trance. He only heard buzzes in his ears as if the recoil force of the gun
still worked in his ear. He had tinnitus.

Right then, he could only see the lips of Nicole and Samuel parted and closed, but he couldn’t hear
what they said exactly.

He knew that something was wrong with his ears.

However, he didn’t want his parents to worry. Though he couldn’t hear them clearly, he could guess
what they were asking from their expressions.

Lucas said indifferently, “I’m fine. I’ll get psychological counseling later. I’m waiting for my appointment.”



Nicole breathed a sigh of relief when hearing about the psychological counseling. However, Samuel
looked a bit solemn.

Lucas had been in the military region for seventeen years already.

How could a soldier who served in the military for so many years still need psychological counseling?

“Nicole, why don’t you get him some food? I didn’t see any food around here. I guess he must be
starved.”

Samuel’s words brought Nicole back to her senses all of a sudden. She looked around, only to find that
the ward was quite simple. There was nothing except for a bed.

“Okay. I’ll buy some food. You just stay here with him.”

Nicole looked at Lucas’s lonely figure, feeling a sharp pang in her heart.

Seeing that Nicole had gone, Samuel asked, “What kind of mission were you assigned to make you
need the psychological counseling? What on earth has happened to you?”

However, Lucas seemed to not hear him. He was still standing in front of the window, lost his thought.

“I’m talking to you, Lucas Green!”

Samuel raised his voice, but Lucas still didn’t react.

Suddenly, he realized something. He rushed to the front of Lucas, pulled his arm towards him. His
expression changed dramatically.

“Your ears...” Samuel said.

Lucas finally saw his face and his moving lips.



Lucas curled up his lips into a smile and said, “Dad, I can’t hear. I wonder if it’s temporary or
permanent. I have tinnitus all the time.”

He was smiling casually, but Samuel felt extremely upset.

He hit Lucas on his shoulder, tears welling up in his eyes.

“You brat! Your mother will be pretty sad if she knows it. Don’t you know to dodge the bullet in the
battlefield?”

Samuel spoke too fast, so Lucas missed the movements of his lips, so he didn’t follow. He squinted,
feeling a bit annoyed and frustrated.

Samuel had never seen his son so upset before.

He pulled Lucas, who was slightly taller than him and hugged him. He lowered his voice and said, “I’ll
find the best doctor for you. Don’t worry. You’ll recover.”

Lucas didn’t know what Samuel was speaking, but he felt warmth in his heart. He remained
expressionless.

Samuel realized that Lucas was bothered by something.

However, as his father, Samuel didn’t know what it was.

Samuel was quite upset. When he was about to speak something, he heard the crick-cracks of high-
heels. He could tell the person was rushing over.

“Lucas!”

The person suddenly pushed the door open. Samuel saw a pretty girl rushing in. When seeing Samuel,
she paused her paces.



“Hi, Mr. Green. How are you?” she greeted Samuel.

Samuel immediately let go of Lucas, and he also saw the girl clearly.

It was Yasmeen.

Samuel knew that Yasmeen had been staying in Country Z as an overseas student in the past few
years. She often met Lucas.

When they were young, they always fought with each other. After they grew up, they got along very
well. Since Yasmeen came here, Samuel patted Lucas sensibly on his shoulder. He slowed down his
speed and said when staring at Lucas’s face, “I’ll go out to check on your mother. Enjoy your chat.”

After that, he turned around. When passing by Yasmeen, he softened his voice and said, “Yasmeen,
please comfort him. I’m afraid he won’t accept it since it happened so suddenly.”

“I will, Mr. Green.”

Upon hearing Yasmeen’s answer, Samuel rested assuredly and walked out.

However, as soon as Samuel left, Lucas emanated a colder aura.

“Leave!” he said.

Yasmeen felt upset about his coldness. However, looking at him, she felt so sorry that there was a
pang in her heart.

“I’ve called my mother. She’ll come here as soon as possible. Your ears will be fine. Lucas, you...”

Yasmeen walked up and wanted to take Lucas’s hand, but he dodged.

“Lucas?”



Yasmeen was startled.

She couldn’t believe that he had dodged her.

She wondered why.

After growing up, he and she got along much better than they used to. She even had thought that they
could confess love to each other. But she was confused about the current situation.

Yasmeen walked up to him again, but Lucas grabbed her wrist. His pretty eyes looked so cold, as if this
was the first time they had met.

“Why? Why did you appear there at that time?” Lucas asked, stressing each syllable.

He gazed at Yasmeen without any blink. Although he was asking her a question, the coldness and
despair made Yasmeen heartbroken.

She was shocked to know that he had seen her earlier.
