Chapter 34: Danica Was Picked up by Manuel

Theo did not expect that Danica would be in a car accident.He felt like he was extremely harsh and
insensitive towards her.

After contemplating for a moment, he took out his phone and dialed Danica's number again.He wanted
to apologize to her and ask if she was injured.

However, the other line just kept ringing.He tried to dial again, but there was still no answer.

Theo sighed as he turned off his phone.He couldn't help but think that Danica didn't answer it on
purpose.

Still restless, Theo pressed his office phone and called in Oliver.

"Send the driver to the hospital in the suburbs.There's someone there I want him to pick up"

"Okay,"

Oliver headed to the door, and before he could go out, he stopped and looked back at Theo again.

"Pick up who?" he asked.

Theo bit his lower lip as he contemplated saying her name, "Danica"

Oliver was shocked, but he didn't object nor say anything else.He reached for the door again and
prepared to leave.

Just as Oliver was about to close the door, Theo called out to him and said, "Forget it, you go and pick
her up yourself"

Oliver was his confidant.He trusted him.He had followed Theo for many years, so he understood
Theo's thoughts more than anyone else.



As Oliver gripped the doorknob, he looked at Theo and suggested, "Theo, why don't you go yourself?
You'd feel more at ease if you do."

Theo thought about it for a moment.

After he weighed the consequences, he shook his head.

"No need, you go” His relationship with Danica wasn't on the best terms already.

If he went, he'd probably make it worse.

Oliver stared at him for a few seconds.

He then nodded before he closed the door after him.

Forty minutes later, Theo received a call from Oliver.

Theo answered the call to Oliver, who sounded a little troubled, "Mr.Dalton, Ms.Sierra refused to come
with me.She instead left with Mr.Shaw"

Theo's brows furrowed.

He gritted his teeth as he asked, "Did Manuel go there himself?"

He couldn't help but think that Manuel had feelings towards Danica.If he really saw her as a mere
employee, why would he pick her up himself?

"Yes.By the time I arrived, Director Shaw was already here" Oliver replied.

Before Theo could talk, Oliver spoke again.

"I asked around and found out that Ms.Sierra is not injured, but she did scratch her arm a bit"



"Also, I conveyed your apology to her.She..."

Oliver's words hung on the other line.

"She told me to tell you something."

Theo sat up and asked in a serious voice, "What did she say?"

Oliver sighed and said softly, "She said it doesn't matter.For her, it has always been this way, and she's
used to it already.She told me that you always think badly about her without knowing the truth first, and
she feels like everything she does is wrong in your eyes."

Theo couldn't help but think about Danica's face as she said those words.

On the other hand, Oliver sympathized with Danica as he felt that his boss had been too hard on her in
the past.

Theo was silent for a while.

He didn't know how to react, so he just said, "Come back’

Before they ended the call, Oliver suddenly remembered something.

"By the way, Boss, Miss Sierra came to the suburbs because of her mother's death anniversary"

"Her mother's death anniversary is today.She didn't want to miss today's meeting, so she went here
yesterday afternoon.She spent the night here and visited her mother's grave this morning before taking
the bus to go back there.Unfortunately, she got into an accident on the way"

Theo listened intently as Oliver spoke.



Feelings he could not understand started bubbling up in his heart, which made it beat uncontrollably.

‘it's her mother's death anniversary?’ he thought.

He only knew that Danica's mother died many years ago, but that was the extent of his knowledge.

He was unaware that her mother was buried in the suburbs or that today was her death anniversary.

She never mentioned it, or maybe she did, but he wasn't paying attention to her.

Theo felt more guilty.

He was wrong about scolding Danica earlier.

She clearly thought about the meeting as something important that she opted to go to the suburbs the
day before her mother’s death anniversary to attend today's meeting.

Meanwhile, Danica was sitting on the passenger's seat of Manuel's car as they drove back to the city.

She leaned her arm against the door while she looked outside.Her eyes were slightly red.She clenched
her fist as she thought about what Theo had said to her.

His words did not hurt her.

She was angry.

Her brows furrowed as thoughts flooded her mind.

'Theo is being irrational.We're already divorced, but he kept on making things hard for me.Why is that
so?’ She couldn't help but sigh heavily, ‘We might be divorced, but he's still one of my bosses at work!
She clicked her tongue and massaged her temples as her thoughts made her head heavy.In this



industry, the investors were the big boss.Their money runs everything, which was why they had a lot of
influence on the project itself.Danica sighed as her eyes focused on the trees they passed.

‘It's natural for him to question why I was absent from the meeting.He's just doing his job.This is the
cruelty of this industry! she thought”
