Chapter 28

"Read the contents of the document." Patrick's face was a little sickly pale, beads of sweat poured from
his forehead.

Every movement appeared to be excruciatingly painful.

After roughly summarizing the document's contents, Sophia waited for a while, but she didn't hear a
response.

Patrick's vision was already blurry, his ears were ringing, and he was suffering from a terrible
headache.

He pretended to be clear-headed, but there was a limit to everything.He was exhausted by the pain
brought by the cold.

"Mr.Evans..." Sophia approached him.

Patrick stood on his feet.He supported himself with one hand on the wall and walked towards the
bedroom.He sauntered as if he would collapse at any moment.

"Mr.Evans." Sophia wanted to help, but Patrick waved his hand.

"Don't worry.I'll just sleep for a bit.You can just help me make a decision on the documents’

"This is not a small matter.I can't make a decision for it!"

Sophia bit her lips in frustration.

Patrick ignored her words and said, "Figure it out yourself"

It was unknown whether Sophia just got lucky or it was her destiny.



But the document easily won the favor and approval of the business partners.

"Mr.Evans, you're a bit too stubborn these past few days.If I hadn't dealt with the work, this cooperation
would've turned into ruins." John said to Patrick.

John drove early to pick Patrick up at his luxurious apartment.

The drive was fast yet careful, eager to get by on time.

After recovering, Patrick's body visibly got thinner.Other than that, he didn't talk as much as before.

"When do you plan to leave for the business trip?"

Patrick was not saying anything, so John tried to talk about something else.

"She can do it’’ Patrick replied as if John asked something irrelevant.

John was stunned for a moment before answering, "You really sunk yourself deeper and deeper when
it comes to your involvement with Sophia."

When Lianna walked confidently in her high heels, it was the start of the morning meeting.

From time to time, she would stand in front of Sophia, unable to know what to say.

"Most of them say that I didn't like newcomers and that I refused to recommend them.I'm afraid you will
be disappointed this time.There was news from the top that Sophia would be promoted as an
evaluation consultant presiding over in the President's Office.She was promoted as a manager.In the
future, you can call her Ms.Hill, applaud!"

Everyone within the department knew that Lianna and Sophia didn't get along well.

But this time, Lianna didn't try to avoid it.Rather, she sarcastically confronted Sophia in public.



The applause was sparse, which made Sophia feel uncomfortable.

As soon as one entered the workplace, it would be like facing the depth of the sea.It was like a
battlefield without smokes that could make one's heart go cold.It was natural for people to climb
unachievable heights.

Like there was room for improvements, there was also room for promotions.

Sophia didn't want to be a hypocrite.

"Oh please, Manager Hill! You can pack up and go after the meeting is over" Lianna sneered.

The two stared at each other after Lianna put emphasis on the word Manager Hill.

Then, she announced the end of the meeting.

While packing her things, everyone came over and helped.

After all, Sophia was promoted.

If human relationships were complicated, then so were people's hearts.

Who knew how many people in the office were sincerely happy for her? Sophia didn't expect much
from them.

However, they could be on good terms as long as they retain this attitude on the surface.



Moving up for her first day in that department, Sophia felt that the General Manager's Office was really
busy.

From the assessment of the recorded meeting to setting up the schedule of the business trip to
reviewing the case evaluation, every single one of them could make people go crazy with work.

Brandon often called her.

Sometimes he even personally went to the Evans Company.

He sent either coffee or ice drinks.

Sophia didn't have much reaction at the beginning.

Perhaps, she was too tired and numbed by life that when someone suddenly treated her well, it made
her feel refreshed.

Every day at noon, Sophia’s lunch was the same; either instant noodles, milk, or an apple.

Anyway, she often ate small meals that could satisfy her hunger.

When a colleague asked her, she smiled and replied that she wanted to lose weight.

They then would comment that she was not fat and ask why did she have to go along the trend?
Sophia smiled without explaining anything.

It was never easy for her to tell how difficult it was for her.

After a few days of observation, the work in Frostford City was busier than anywhere else.

Although they were working on the same floor, there would be times that she wouldn't see a glimpse of
Patrick for a few days.



This made Sophia sigh from relief.

Since they didn't often have a chance to meet each other, the two of them could be at ease.

By noon, Sophia walked to the workstation holding instant noodles.

Suddenly, she heard one of her colleagues, Jenelyn Collins, confront her.

"Sophia, you're still eating instant noodles? I heard that if you eat that once, the toxins won't be flushed
out for a week.It's not good for your health,"Jenelyn said to Sophia.

"It doesn't matter; I'm perfectly healthy" Sophia smiled.

In fact, she knew that Jenelyn didn't like the taste of instant noodles, but she never knew that she could
be this blunt about it.

It seemed that the days that she could eat instant noodles would be over.

She could change into drinking milk.

Anyway, her appetite was so small that she could eat anything.

Patrick just came back from lunch and passed by the pantry.He glanced at Sophia, who was eating
instant noodles.

During the lunch break, he seemed to have seen this scene numerous times.

When he came back from lunch, Patrick entered the General Manager's Office.

"In the future, I don't want to see any snacks, instant noodles, or other food in the General Manager's
Office.It will affect the company's image"



"Ms.Collins, in the future, the staff lunch of the General Manager's office will be distributed by the
outside restaurant and reimbursed by the company” Patrick said.

After Patrick's figure disappeared for a few seconds, Jenelyn looked at Sophia, "Mr.Evans’ meaning is
that in the future, all the staff's lunch of the General Manager's office will be reimbursed by the
company? Can I interpret it as a free lunch?"

Sophia didn't think too much about it.

"It seems like it"

The next day, the weather was a bit dark.

Sophia just got off the bus and walked through the Evans Enterprise.

Suddenly, she was stopped by John, who seemed to have waited for a long time.

"Ms.Hill, get in the car"

Sophia glanced in the direction he pointed and saw the low-key luxurious Rolls-Royce parked on the
side of the road.

Without thinking, she knew who was sitting inside.

Subconsciously, she did not want to go.

"I haven't clocked out yet." Sophia found an excuse.

"When you have a business trip, you don't need to clock out.There's not much time left; get in the car
quickly!" John urged.



Sophia hesitated.

John frowned after he saw that she didn't move.

Then, he reminded her, "Don't you know that the General Administration Office's evaluation consultant
will often go on business trips with the president?"

Sophia knew it, but she did not expect that she would not be informed in advance.She did not prepare
anything.

In the end, she still got in the car.

She originally wanted to sit in the back seat, but when she knew that Patrick would personally drive the
car, she dispelled the idea.However, would it just be the two of them on the business trip?

"Fasten your seat belt, '' Patrick reminded.

Sophia replied, "Okay."

Patrick and pulled over the seat belt and fastened it.

John told her some rundowns about the business trip through the half-lowered window.

"Sophia, Smith Group is our important client” they are significant to our company.

Before signing the contract with them, you must prepare all of the documents.

You can not make any mistakes, especially not to be late."John said to Sophia.

Sophia nodded.

Patrick habitually frowned, started the car, and instantly cut into the driveway.



The location of the business trip was Hillwood City, 500 kilometers away from Frostford City.

Sophia had been there once before when she was in college.

On the highway, Patrick quietly drove.

Occasionally, his mobile phone would ring, and he would press the earphone to answer.

Sophia was the type of person who was always at ease.

After getting on the car, she kept looking out of the window, occasionally closing her eyes to rest.

The car moved at a constant speed for seven hours.When they arrived at their destination, the sun was
about to set.
