Chapter 39

Even though she bought it, Sophia couldn't give it away.She had never thought of giving it away to
anybody else.

"Can I have this shirt?" Patrick asked her.

"This...is very expensive." Sophia panicked for a bit.She did not expect him to be this straightforward.

"Even if this is more expensive than real gold, someone still has to wear this.It will be a pity to throw it
away somewhere."

Patrick reached out his hand to take the shopping bag from her hand.

Sophia didn't stop him or rather, the walls that she built in her heart were slowly collapsing.

Sophia had to admit that she wanted to see him wore that shirt.Would it be the same as she had
imagined or would he be more charming than what she had in mind?

"Let's go up, it's getting late.Patrick took the shopping bag and put out the fire of the cigarette.He stood
up straight and watched as she went up the stairs.Sophia nodded, turned around, and went
upstairs.Patrick put the shopping bag in the driver's seat and leaned against the car to smoke a few
more cigarettes.Somehow, his mood was lifted up.

The lump on his throat vanished in an instant.

‘Seeing that she gave me the clothes, does this mean that I still have a place in her heart and she is
just struggling and hesitating?’ Patrick thought

There were a lot of things that were bothering Patrick's heart that he couldn't tell her.

About their divorce, the child that was nearly aborted, and his helplessness in those situations.



But this was already a great leap for him.He couldn't expect anything more.

Patrick walked carefully.He was afraid that if his footsteps were too fast, it would scare her.

Then, his relationship with Sophia would develop slowly.

If Patrick had been too anxious to return to their past sweet relationship, he might not have achieved
his original goal.

Suppressing the pain that she felt for so many years, Patrick was not afraid that days would pass by.

As long as Sophia was happy, he would be satisfied.

Sophia entered her room and directly lay down on her bed.She was upset and also felt that she was a
little indecisive.

Although the child in her belly was saved, if the child in her belly died back then, she would most likely
want him to die right now.

People said that when there was hatred, there was love.

But now, Sophia was confused about what she truly felt for him.

There were still a few days until the tenth anniversary of Evans Enterprise.

They witnessed the growth of the company for ten years.

Of course, it was guaranteed that the anniversary celebration would be grand and everyone in the
company would dress up.

Patrick walked into the building and it was crowded as usual.

Sophia didn't eat her breakfast therefore her stomach felt a little sore from hunger.

She really wanted to buy something to eat for breakfast.

When Sophia went out of the elevator, she bumped into Patrick's entourage.

Patrick was wearing a light blue shirt that did not differ as much from what she had in mind.He was
even more dazzling wearing it.Indeed, Patrick could look natural in any clothes.

"Good morning, President!" Some of Sophia's colleagues passed by.

They stopped in front of him and respectfully greeted him.

Patrick's expression lit up like a lightbulb.

Clearly, he was in a good mood as he responded to their greetings.

"Good morning!"

Sophia stepped out of the elevator and stood at the back of her colleagues following the wave of
greetings.

"Good morning, President!"



Patrick paused for a moment and said, "You're early."

Her other female colleagues looked at Sophia one after another.Their eyes were full of envy and
jealousy.

‘Why did he have to stop in front of her?’ They thought the same Sophia walked out after Patrick's
entourage disappeared.

The weather was clear outside.It was a bit windy that prevented her from feeling too hot.

How good would it be if the weather was clear every day? After buying her breakfast, Sophia returned
to the General Manager's Office.

Jenelyn, Meredith, and Theresa were gathered together.

They seemed to be discussing something.

"Sophia, you're back. Come here for a bit." Jenelyn called her.

Sophia walked over and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Isn't there a lucky draw event at the tenth anniversary of the company? Mr.Evans prepared a big
surprise.He said that whoever gets the card with his name on it can sing a song together with him on
stage."

Sophia bit her bread and blinked her eyes.

"Isn't that good? Aren't the female staff of the company longed for the president to give them some
benefits?"

Jenelyn sighed, "It's good but who would have that much luck and have the confidence to say that they
can get it?!"



Meredith and Theresa sighed.

"You're still okay.With your position, you can pull some strings but small employees like us will probably
have the short end of the stick.How many more chances would be left when the time comes? It's
clearly not fair!"

Even Jenelyn comforted them, "Even if you're at the front of the line, you're not necessarily the one that
will be blessed with that luck.You shouldn't worry about it as much."

For a while, Meredith and Theresa complained, and Sophia felt weird.

"It doesn't matter.I won't draw a card when the time comes.I'll let you get your cards first so that I won't
jinx it with my unlucky hand.At worst, I might draw a card that says to clean up the venue"

Sophia told them the truth.She had been quite obsessed with buying lottery tickets before but she only
won 5 dollars at most.

From then on, she felt that she had no luck when it came to luck-related stuff.

Therefore, she never believed in luck and relied on effort and hard work.

Meredith and Theresa warmly hugged Sophia.

"Our Sophia is still the best."

They had their fun until nine in the morning before they officially started their work for the day.

Today, several executives of the subsidiary company came to the headquarters for a meeting.

After the meeting, they arrived at Patrick's office.

It was unknown what they were talking about.



All day, Patrick's office door was closed.

Sophia sat in front of her computer and seriously analyzed the case that she had finished writing.She
felt a little thirsty and took the cup of water.

When she put it in her mouth, however, she found out that there was no water in it.

After saving the document, Sophia got up and walked into the tea room.

Right after drinking water, she turned around and was shocked by the person standing by the door.

He was tall enough that he almost blocked the light from outside.

"Do you have any ideas for the company’s anniversary?" Patrick asked Sophia.

Sophia shook her head.

‘What ideas can I suggest? Isn't there a special team responsible for the event?’ she thought.

"It's an event worth remembering after all? Patrick explained.

"I see.My colleagues are looking forward to interacting with you.They're thinking about ways to draw
your name and sing together with you on stage."

"How about you? Do you want to sing with me?" Patrick asked.

Sophia shook her head, "I’m not good at singing”

"That can't be.You're not bad at singing" Patrick said.

Sophia's eyes flickered a bit.



On the business trip that day, she had no choice but to sing.

She couldn't tell her superiors that she didn't want to sing and refuse the others’ requests.

Sophia thought Patrick was talking to Chris that day and couldn't focus on listening to her singing.

Maybe, he misunderstood her purpose in choosing the song.

Maybe the song lyrics felt a little bit different when he heard it.

It was confusing, thoroughly confusing.She felt tired thinking about it.

"Is that so? Maybe because the quality of the microphone was good that day and my voice luckily
sounded good." Sophia was a little bit embarrassed.

"It doesn’t matter.At the anniversary, I'll send someone to prepare a set of sound equipment with
special effects so you don't have to worry."

Sophia felt a little bit dizzy hearing him say this.

‘Why did it sound like he wants to sing along with me?’ she thought.

Sophia looked at him directly.

Patrick did not intend to dodge nor deny it.

"I think the song, ‘Love Has No Other Choice’ must only be sung by you.It's also suitable for a duet."

He emphasized the name of the song, "Love Has No Other Choice" as if he was expressing his
feelings to her, and he had no choice but to love her.

A love that was out of his control? Sophia returned to her seat in a daze.



Only after she experienced it herself that she knew that Patrick was an expert in love.

The words of love that he uttered were romantic, charming, and pleasant to the ears of the receiver.
