Uncle Zong was nowhere to be seen and Wen Rugui and Pu Jianyi were the only ones left inside the living room.
Pu Jianyi pulled out a stack of money from his pocket, handed them over to Wen Rugui, and said, “Here’s your money back.”
Wen Rugui, “How are you able to pay me back?”
Pu Jianyi picked up the glass of tea and downed it dully. Anyone who didn’t know better would think that he was drinking an alcoholic beverage. “Xiaoyu had paid me back and asked me to stop sending her money.”
Wen Rugui looked at him quietly.
He knew about Pu Jianyi and Xiaoyu.
Pu Jianyi had an subordinate who had sacrificed himself in the line of duty. He had a 70-year-old mother at home and his wife was gravely ill. His son and daughter were both very young.
After the accidently, the force compensated them with some money but that was nowhere close to enough for them to live on.
Pu Jianyi had been sending them money under the disguise of their entire team and had taken good care of them. Lin Xiaoyu was the daughter of the cop and Pu Jianyi had grown fond of her while taking care of the family.
When Mother Lin was hospitalized a while back and Pu Jianyi had to borrow from him, Wen Rugui had hoped that Pu Jianyi’s acts would touch Xiaoyu. Unfortunately, it ended sadly.
Pu Jianyi poured himself another cup of tea. “Why aren’t you saying something to comfort me? I feel so awful right now!”
Wen Rugui paused for a little and said, “My condolences.”
Pu Jianyi, “……”
“How come I never noticed that you are such a mean person? You have been getting worse ever since you started dating Comrade Tong!”
Wen Rugui frowned a little. “Stop with the nonsense. This has nothing to do with her.”
Pu Jianyi was disgusted by how defensive Wen Rugui was about his girlfriend. Thinking that he had been turned down before he could even confess his love, he felt even sadder.
“Rugui, I have a feeling that I will never fall for another woman in this lifetime. It hurts too much!”
Things had been going so well and there was left was to talk define their relationship explicitly. Low and behold, he had only gone on a work trip for 2 weeks and she already had a boyfriend when he returned.
Hot dang! What about his two-years’ time?
Sure, he maybe had been taking care of the Lin family for his late colleague but, toward the end…… anyone with eyes could tell that he was fond of her.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to define their relationship. It was that she had been telling him that she was not ready for a relationship yet and only wanted to take care of her family. How did she suddenly have herself a boyfriend out of the blue?
He felt like a fool!
Wen Rugui was never good at consoling people so he only listened quietly.
By the time he took off, Pu Jianyi had finished the Wen’s entire teapot of tea.
He staggered out of the Wen’s place as though he was drunk on his way out.

Tong Xuelu made the announcement to the others at the restaurant that she would be entering into the culinary competition when she went to work the next day.
“Manager Tong, are we really going to be able to turn into a Tier I restaurant?”
Everyone’s mouths dropped open when they found out.
Tong Xuelu said nonchalantly, “If we can take first place at the culinary competition.”
The others were even more excited after they had heard that.
“Of course we will take first place with Manager Tong’s cooking!”
Guo Weiping nodded repeated. “I agree wholeheartedly!”
Guo Chunyu’s face turned beet red from excitement. “Manager Tong, what is our next step?”
Tong Xuelu gave Guo Chunyu an appreciative look. “The next time is for me to focus on practicing on my cooking skills. As such, I am going to be leaning on your more on matters of the restaurant.”
Guo Chunyu nodded repeatedly. “That goes without saying. Don’t worry, Manager Tong. We will take good care of the restaurant and would not let any matters bother you!”
Meng Qingqing and Guo Weiping nodded as well. “Yes, Manager Tong. You just focusing on your cooking.”
Tong Xuelu nodded in content.
