Huang Qimin carried on to say, “It’s right after New Year. Even if you return to work, there aren’t a lot going on. The dean will let you have the time off. Not to mention that this has to do with your girlfriend!
“You go buy train ticket for tomorrow. Preferably on the one after your girlfriend’s. You still go to see her off and you follow them afterward. That way you will give you girlfriend another surprise when she sees you!”
Zhou Yan scratched his nose. “Is that a good idea?”
Huang Qimin, “How is it not a good idea? Listen to me, Rugui. Not only are you going to go, you are going to dress up the best you can!”
Wen Rugui looked perplexed. “Dress up?”
Zhou Yan, too, was surprised. “Men don’t need to dress up! Only women dress up!”
Huang Qimin gave him another look of contempt. “Look at the birds. It is vital for male birds to have pretty feathers to attract female birds. Let it be peacock, mandarin ducks, or even chicken! The female birds are not interested unless the males are attractive!”
Wen Rugui and Zhou Yan thought about it some and felt that Huang Qimin’s words made a lot of sense.
Seeing that he had successfully convinced the other two, Huang Qimin smiled. “As such, Rugui, you need to dress up and show up in your best clothes in front of that thief. You let him know that you are prettier than he is!”

The last part sounded a little strange, but Wen Rugui was convinced, nonetheless.
He thanked Huang Qimin and returned home in the cold wind, shivering.
Once he got back to the military compound, he first stopped by the security guard’s station and phoned the dean to take time off.
Just like Huang Qimin had said, the dean approved his time off as soon as he found out the reason behind it.
He even cheered Wen Rugui on. “Rugui, you must guard your girlfriend. We have enough single men at the base. We don’t need another one.”

After the phone call, Wen Rugui biked over to the train station to buy his ticket.
At this day and age, one needed referral letter to go anywhere. As such, it wasn’t difficult to secure a train ticket.

Old Mr. Wen thought about it some and was still worried. “Perhaps I should go with you. You are inexperienced in this matter. I worry that you don’t stand a chance against that guy!”

This would very much complicate matters if Old Mr. Wen was to come with.
Besides, he wanted alone time with Tong Xuelu. For certain that would not happen if Old Mr. Wen was to go with.
Wen Rugui tried for a long time and was finally able to talk Old Mr. Wen down with Uncle Zong’s help.

Wen Rugui got up early the next day, dressed up, and rode his bicycle over to Tong Xuelu’s place.
Tong Xuelu’s eyes lit up when she saw Wen Rugui. “Dear, you look different than you normally do today.”
Wen Rugui had on a black coat and had the white scarf that she gave him the other day. He also had on a pair of leather shoes. He looked very much like a young master from some wealthy family today.
The warm sun on the a winter day casted down on Wen Rugui’s face and his ears were a seductive pink under the sun. “Yeah, I have had this for many years. I figure I should wear it from time to time.”
Huang Qimin was right, a male bird must be pretty to attract female birds. Men need a pretty appearance to attract females.
He even regretted not consulting with Huang Qimin sooner.
