Xie Dongfeng and Wang Lu had recently been hearing a lot of things about Shangguan Rouxue. Adjectives like pretentious and vicious had associated themselves with their future daughter in law. They still hadn’t seen the other side to Shangguan Rouxue’s personality, so their impression of her was still positive. Besides, Shangguan Rouxue was now pregnant with Family Xie’s heir, so the marriage had become the need of the hour.
Wang Lu lectured Xie Zhuojun once again about the importance of this marriage. That broke his heart even further.
Early the following morning, Yang Wenshu called Xie Zhuojun and urged him to take Shangguan Rouxue to the Office of Civil Affairs, where marriages were to be registered.
Xie Zhuojun understood clearly that there was no way out for him and that even his parents wouldn’t allow him to break off the engagement. This is exactly what Shangguan Zheng had said too. It wasn’t fair for Xie Zhoujun to tamper with the reputation of Family Shangguan. He had already called off his engagement with Shangguan Ning, four years ago. If he did the same with Shangguan Rouxue, Family Shangguan would have no face to show.
Xie Zhuojun stayed awake all night. There were dark circles under his eyes, the next morning and he looked deathly pale.
He had been suffering from repeated dizzy spells during the past few days, but due to the current state of affairs in his life, he has been procrastinating about visiting the hospital. He felt even worse after last night because he hadn’t gotten much sleep. He felt a throbbing headache that refused to let him think straight.
He took some painkillers and felt a little bit better. Then he drove to pick up Shangguan Rouxue and got to the Civil Affairs Office.
Shangguan Rouxue was very happy. Marrying Xie Zhuojun had been her dream since she was in her teens. The moment she met him, she had fallen for his handsome face and his soft temperament.
She had used all the schemes and methods to drive away all other women away from him, including Shangguan Ning, who used to be engaged with him. And today, her wish had been realized – she was marrying Xie Zhuojun.
He would be her lawful husband after the marriage was registered. She could be with him openly and freely. She needn’t worry any more that someone else would steal him away from her.
Although Xie Zhuojun wasn’t as gentle and caring as he used to be, yet she believed that with her coy behaviour, Xie Zhuojun would definitely come around. One day he would love her as much as he loved her before.
As long as they got married, there would be no problem.
When they were done with the registration at the Office of Civil Affairs, Xie Zhuojun’s heart felt heavy. He felt no joy at being married.
But Shangguan Rouxue was thrilled. She threw herself into his arms. She kissed him and played with his hair.
Waiting patiently in a conspicuous silver-white sportscar, Tiger pulled out his cell-phone and reported the latest update to Jing Yichen. “Master, Xie and Shangguan Rouxue have registered their marriage and got the marriage certificate.”
Jing Yichen was reading the financial report of the enterprise when he received the call. He nodded and said casually. “When Xie Zhuojun is in a better mood, deliver our wedding present to him and then we will sit back and watch. Also, you can go ahead and make good all the loans owed by Xie Enterprises to various corporations in the market. Jingsheng Enterprises will recover those loans from Xie enterprises.”
Tiger understood and passed on Jing Yichen’s order to his men.
Shangguan Ning had no idea about all that Jing Yichen had done. She was just confused about Xie Zhoujun, who came to Jingsheng once again.
“Mr. Xie, are you deaf or just plain stupid? Didn’t I tell you not to come here again?”
What was wrong with Xie Zhuojun? He came to Jingsheng every day and the more he was asked to leave, the more he refused to listen.
Xie Zhuojun was about to light a cigarette when he noticed Shangguan Ning frown. He smiled bitterly and said softly, “Oh, I almost forgot that you don’t like the smell of cigarettes.”
Shangguan Ning frowned even more after what he said.
“You’d better leave if you don’t have anything to say. I will not see you again, so please save yourself the trouble of coming here the next time around.”
She had nothing to say to Xie Zhuojun any more. If Shangguan Rouxue ever got to know that Xie Zhuojun had been coming to Jingsheng Enterprise to see her, she would definitely cause some trouble. She didn’t want to be sucked into that mess again, because of him.
Although Jing Yichen hadn’t said anything to her yet, but she knew that he didn’t like it when she met Xie Zhuojun.
Shangguan Ning didn’t want to cause any misunderstanding with Jing Yichen, because she cherished her marriage with him. She didn’t want it to be ruined because of Xie Zhuojun.
Ning was done with Xie Zhuojun for good. She was about to leave when she heard Xie Zhuojun whisper, “Ning, I am married!”
Shangguan Ning stopped in her tracks and said calmly, “Congratulations!”
“I am here to tell you that I will not come to disturb you again in the future, nor will Xue.”
Xie Zhuojun stood up and felt more disappointed than ever as he stared at Shangguan Ning. He could not control his emotions anymore. He thought that Shangguan Ning would be upset to learn of his marriage, but that didn’t happen. He thought that she would be relieved to learn that he wouldn’t bother her anymore, but that didn’t happen either. She didn’t care about him at all and this was killing him. All she said was, “okay” and then walked out of the conference room.
Of course Shangguan Ning didn’t care about him. He shouldn’t have come to her in the first place. He realised that just because he had told Ning that Shangguan Rouxue wouldn’t bother her anymore, it didn’t mean that Shangguan Ning was ready to forgive her.
That Shangguan Rouxue married Xie Zhuojun was something Shangguan Ning already accepted four years ago. She wasn’t surprised to hear that they were married.
Shangguan Ning was sure that she wouldn’t feel upset on learning about Xie Zhuojun’s marriage to Shangguan Rouxue. She thought that she would at least feel happy for them, but that wasn’t the case either. She felt nothing.
They two were finally married. Hopefully now, Shangguan Rouxue would be much less annoying.
