Chapter 40

Under the umbrella, two men stared at each other, studying each other’s expressions.

They were once good partners in the business industry, but now, they were each other’s rivals.

“You guys are not suited to be together,” Jace replied definitively.

Yoel simply shrugged and replied, “How can you be sure if you don’t try? Besides, you don’t even know
her. What makes you think that we’re not suited for each other? Mind you, I was the one who informed
you about her real identity.”

Yoel knew the right spots to attack Jace. Every sentence was a knife that pierced Jace’s heart.

Jace squinted and said, “She’s not the type that you could play around with.” “I know, and this is exactly
why I’m going to sincerely pursue her.”

Yoel adjusted his stance and looked where Sage had been and said, “At first, I was worried that she’d
still have feelings for you, but by the looks of it, I must be overthinking it. Sage seems the type who
would be able to move on quickly once she has made up her mind. She’s more ruthless than most
men, and that is exactly why I like her.”

He smiled as he punched Jace’s shoulder lightly. “I’ll save the congratulation for your wedding. Wait for
my good news, my friend. Who knows, you might be attending my wedding soon.”

Yoel was beaming. After lighting up a cigarette, he adjusted his coat and walked into the rain. Waving
to Jace, he said, “See you around, friend.”

Jace clenched his fists tightly as he watched Yoel disappear into the night.

The expression on his face was grave and solemn.



As it was raining, Sage was unable to fly the helicopter.

On the drive back to Salem City, Norah felt exhausted. She grabbed a blanket, draped it across her
shoulders, and planned to get some shut-eye.

The car suddenly came to an abrupt stop and this startled Sage awake.

“Can’t you even drive properly?” seethed Hunter.



The driver had nearly crashed into someone, and he quickly apologized, “I’m sorry, Madam.”

Hunter noticed a familiar silhouette outside the car. Alarmed, he slowly reached into his pockets and
just as he was about to open the car door, Yoel Fulton had barged into the car. “Miss Sage, could I
have a ride?”

Yoel was drenched from the rain.

Looking at Yoel, who had rudely barged in, Sage furrowed her brows and hissed, “Who allowed you to
get in? Get out of my car!”

“We’re all friends, aren’t we? Come on now, don’t be so harsh.”

Yoel then started taking off his clothes. First, he removed his coat and then his pants. Everyone in the
car was stunned.

Just when he was about to loosen his belt, Yoel felt a knife prick his neck.

With a cold tone, Sage hissed, “Mr. Yoel, are you sure you want to do this?”



Yoel moved his neck slightly and immediately felt a piercing pain. Blood seeped from the cut. Sage was
holding a German army knife.

“It’s dangerous for a lady to be using a knife. What if you hurt yourself?”

Still smiling, Yoel reached for the knife on his neck, pushed it away, and realized that there was blood
on his hands. He was stunned by how ruthless Sage could be.

“There’s a misunderstanding.” Yoel fixed his wet hair and smiled, “It’s just that I’m wet all over, and I
don’t wish to dirty your car.”

Sage was unfazed by his explanation. She replied coldly, “If that’s the case, you wouldn’t even have
gotten into my car.”

Yoel tightened his belt. His white shirt was wet from the rain and was sticking to his skin, showing off
his muscular and lean abs. The top of his shirt was also unbuttoned, making him look seductive.

He then reached for a few napkins to wipe away the blood on his neck. Leaning into the car seat, he
flashed an alluring smile at

Sage and said, “All I’m asking for is to be your friend.”
