Jace felt as if Sage had plunged a sword through his chest, piercing his heart, shattering it into a million
pieces.

He suppressed his anger, pretended to be calm, and asked her, “Who is this guy? Your ex-lover?”

Why were there so many men in her life? She just had dinner with Luther, and now, she was hugging
another man…

Sage felt a prick on her temples.

Was Jace questioning her? On what terms?

Sage found Jace to be unreasonably ridiculous. He had never failed to anger her the moment she felt
herself softening toward him. This was his strongest suit.

“Not everyone is like you, Jace,” Sage said. “My love life is not as interesting as yours.”

“You don’t need to know who he is. He’s someone I know, and you don’t need to know anything more.”

She grabbed Kane by the waist and said, “Let’s go.”

Kane tried hard to contain his laughter. He was impressed by how Sage was able to defend herself
without resorting to foul language.

Sage paused for a moment, turned to Jace, and said, “Oh, yes, I nearly forgot. Please do not have your
people follow me around. That includes yourself.”



She had known all along that Jace had been keeping her safe. She felt that all of this was unnecessary,
not that she was not grateful

Sage took Kane’s phone and began to browse through it as soon as they had gotten into the car.

Kane mocked.

Sage ignored his warning and focused on investigating the culprit behind the incident.

That scheming cousin of hers needed to be stopped.

“Got it?” Kane asked as he tilted his head to get a better look at the screen. He was not tech savvy like
Luther.

Sage responded lightly, “Mm-hmm.” She leaned back into her seat and retumed his phone. Kane
leaned toward Sage and said, “I’ll lend you my shoulder if you want?”

Sage closed her eyes and rested her head on his shoulders without saying a word. She clutched his
arms, just like they were as kids. Sage felt safe and secure as she uttered lightly, “Good to have you
back, brother.”
