Chapter 164: Perhaps Your Father Will Face Deafness

Hayden became silent.

Knowing that she had said something wrongly, Alayna quickly explained, “These aren’t important. The
money that you hold in your hand is the most important. I told you last time to go back and see your
father more often so that your father will not become stupid and think that he has only one daughter left
and give all his property to Chelsea who is a bitch.”

“Just give, I don’t care about all that.”

“Hayden, make plans for the future. Don’t lack a man and wealth in the end.”

Alayna’s words instantly reminded Hayden that she needed a lot of money to ensure that even if she
broke up with Joseph or had a quarrel one day, she would have a backup way to protect herself and it
would be easier to get Noah back. She was too comfortable these days, so comfortable that she
thought this backup way was no longer needed.

“I’ve understood,” She thought about it for a moment and answered.

At 1.30 p.m., Hayden took leave for an hour to send Benjamin to the airport.

“Let me know when the plane lands.”

Hayden looked at Benjamin in front of her who was in a casual suit. She was still a little worried.

“I’m an adult.” Benjamin was slightly helpless, “Don’t always look at me with a gaze as if you’re looking
at a child. It will make me feel like you’re my mother.”

After seeing Benjamin entered the security checkpoint, Hayden left the airport.

The sky was filled with a roaring sound. When Hayden raised her head, she saw a long trail made by
an airplane in the sky. She subconsciously glanced at her watch. It was two o’clock.

She suddenly thought in mind that the plane that Joseph was on seemed to be the one at two o’clock.

The words about his relationship with Addison that he said before he left kept lingering in her mind. By
nature, women would habitually break down a seemingly simple word into many meanings. When men
said lesser words, they thought more and when men said more, women thought even more.

In the end, Hayden got annoyed and stepped on the accelerator to go to the airport highway.

She took a leave for the whole afternoon and planned to go back to the Downey family.

It was not that she was going back to get her property back like what Alayna said. It was because some
time ago, Brook called her and it sounded like he was not feeling well. So, she had to go back to take a
look.

After arriving at the door of the Downey family, she pressed the doorbell and the housemaid came to
open the door after a while.

It was an unfamiliar middle-aged woman. She was sizing up Hayden with a wary face.

“You are?”

Hayden smiled faintly.



“I’m Hayden, are you the new housemaid?”

“Hayden?” The housemaid frowned and was about to close the door, “I’ve never heard of you, you
should have come to the wrong place.”

“Hold on.”

Hayden pressed the door, “It’s normal that you haven’t seen me. My father is Brook, the owner of this
house. He isn’t here?”

“Are you kidding?” The housemaid’s face darkened, “Mister only has a daughter, when does he have
such a daughter like you? You should pick a place before you want to cheat. Although Mister is not at
home and his daughter doesn’t often come back, I’m not that stupid okay.”

“He isn’t at home?” Hayden frowned, “Where does he go?”

The Downey Group was now handed over to Chelsea’s mother to be managed by her. Several cousins
of the Downey family were also involved. Now, Brook had retreated to the backend. Although he still
had the power of controlling shares, he did not care much about the company matter anymore. As he
was old, he did not like to go out so he was always at home.

“Aren’t you claimed to be Mister’s daughter? How come you don’t even know where has your father
gone?”

The housemaid twitched her lips with contempt and was quite triumphant as if she had had the goods
on Hayden from her words, “Don’t perform this kind of bluffing tricks in front of me. Let me tell you,
Mister is ill and had gone to the nursing home long ago. If you’re really Mister’s daughter, how will you
not know. Go back to where you come from, I’ll call the police if you come again.”

Finished speaking, the door was closed with a ‘bang’.



Hayden froze for a moment. She hurriedly drove the car to go to the nursing home.

“Hello? Camille, this is Hayden.” She dialled Camille’s number, “Is my father in the hospital?”

Camille sighed on the other end of the phone. Hayden only then realized that Camille had been
dismissed half a month ago. As for the matter of Brook being hospitalized, she did not know much
about it.

“It should be the nursing home in MD Street. When I left, I apparently heard that woman and her
daughter vaguely mention it.”

“Alright, I got it. Thank you, Camille.”

After hanging up the phone, Hayden set the GPS and went to the nursing home in MD Street.

From Camille’s words, it seemed that Brook was hospitalized more than half a month ago but she
surprisingly did not know about it at all. During this period, she had had a phone call with her father but
he completely did not mention anything about his health condition or hospitalization on the phone.
Thinking of this, she abruptly felt contrite and had indescribable guilt.

The nursing home was with a five-star level and it was considered one of the best in Nanking. After
looking at the environment, Hayden somewhat heaved a sigh of relief. After inquiring about the patient
ward in the reception, she directly went to the inpatient department.

When she arrived at the ward, Brook was sleeping. After standing at the door to look at him for a while,
Hayden still pulled the door and went out. She directly went to find the doctor in charge.

“Your father was hospitalized half a month ago. When he came in, his eyes were already somewhat
blind. Although it can be slightly controlled through medication, he’s basically unable to see anything
now.”



“You mean that my father can’t see anything now?”

Hayden’s heart throbbed and she clenched her fists, “How can this be?”

“There are many specific reasons. According to the test results, your father’s liver is having
deterioration. Your mother has said that he usually drinks a lot, in addition to the reason that he
practises irregular diets. There are a lot of small and large diseases on his body. This time, it’s the

The doctor only knew that she was Brook’s daughter so he naturally thought that Sofia was her mother.
Hayden slightly frowned and did not deliberately correct it and asked instead.

“Then can my father’s blindness still be cured?”

“Probably cannot.” The doctor shook his head regrettably, “This is irreversible. It can barely be
controlled with medicine to try to maintain it. If it isn’t controlled, perhaps he will really be unable to see
anything afterward. Furthermore, there is another point. I’m not sure whether your mother has told
you.”

“Your father may also face deafness.”

not a dream. The doctor said that her father would not be able to hear or see?

Despite her resentment towards her father because of her mother’s matter, the care and love he had
for her were not fake. He was still the same father who loved and cared for her and would give her
anything she wanted. In her view, her father had always been omnipotent.



After she came out of the office of the doctor in charge, she sat beside Brook’s hospital bed for a long
time.

“Nurse…”

He suddenly woke up, holding the bedside while looking at Hayden. His eyes were cloudy and he was
apparently having trouble getting his eyes focused.
