Chapter 187: She Went After Him

Chelsea felt dizzy after she was slapped, and it was only after a long time she regained her
consciousness. When she raised her head, her right face was imprinted with bright red fingerprints.

Trembling, she covered her face and stared at Hayden in disbelief.

“You dare to slap me?”

“This slap was given to you on behalf of dad, who is still in the operating room for resuscitation. What
did you just say? When dad wakes up, kneel and tell him word by word.”

Chelsea’s heart throbbed for a moment and she pursed her lips.

She had just said something wrong that her dad was going to die, which she still remembered.

However, she did not expect that Hayden kept on emphasizing that point.

“This is a hospital and here is an operating room. If you want to cry and make trouble, get lost and go
wherever you want. Don’t make a fool of yourselves here. If you wanna stay here, just shut up.”

Hayden’s voice was not very loud but sounded unquestionable.

Chelsea looked unhappy and wanted to break free from Sofia’s hand to argue with Hayden, while
Alayna said something in a low voice.

“What’s the matter? Does Ms. Downey think that the slap just now didn’t make you regain your
consciousness? Before the security guards come, I think the police will not say anything if I do
something to maintain the law in order not to affect the surgery inside.”

“Chelsea.”



Sofia quickly moved Chelsea to her back. Although she was very angry, she forced herself to apologize
to her.

“Chelsea just said something wrong as she was too nervous. Of course we want Brook to wake up
more than anyone. We won’t quarrel anymore. Let’s wait at the side.”

This was a crucial moment that would determine the future of her and Chelsea. How could they be
ejected from the hospital? Even if they were humiliated, she had to stay here with her daughter.

Hayden glanced at them coldly. She had no time to ask any more questions and sat down again.

On the other side, the doctors and nurses of the hospital also dispersed the crowds, making the place
silent again, only left the pulsating sound of the time remaining for the operation second by second,
slowing down the heart rate of people.

“Mum, what’s wrong with you? The bitch just scolded us like that…”

Sofia lowered her voice, displaying a shade of gloom in her eyes, “As long as your father never wakes
up, you and I are the legal heirs to the majority of his property. What she can get at most is those
houses but not the company.”

“Mum, how can you be so sure that dad won’t wake up, what if he…”

Sofia’s lips curled up and she smiled coldly, “Even if he has a narrow escape today, he won’t live long.”

Chelsea shivered, feeling that she had gone too far to turn back. She said hesitantly, “He is my father
after all. Mum, do you really want to do this?”



“You treat him as your father, but he only cares about his little daughter. I’m doing this now for our
future. Don’t worry, Chelsea. Nothing will go wrong, just get through these two days.”

“… I know, mum.”

The surgery went on for more than six hours, and when the operating time on the wall stopped
counting, Hayden clenched her fists, not even realizing that her nails were snapping blood out of her
flesh.

“Doctor, how is my father doing?”

“The operation went well, and the patient is fine for now, but he has to be transferred to the ICU for
further observation.”

Hayden heaved out a sigh of relief as Alayna quickly held her up.

After all the procedures of hospitalization were completed, Sofia and Chelsea stood at the door of the
ICU and refused to leave, looking as if they loved Brook very much.

Hayden stood at the entrance of the ICU for a while. From the glass partition door, she could see that
Brook had many tubes inserted into his body and she felt heartbreaking. She wiped her tears and went
straight to find Brook’s attending doctor.

“Mr. Brook is suffering from severe deterioration of his liver function, which is common for older people.
It is because of the unhealthy diet and lifestyle, and this is something I told you last time. This sudden
fainting is a warning. Ms. Downey, I can only say frankly that you may need to get mentally prepared.”

“Is there nothing that can be done?”

“You can only rely on medication to maintain his health now, but it is almost impossible to recover. You
also know that once the organ is damaged, it is almost irreversible,”



“I see, thank you, doctor.”

Even though she had already prepared for the worst, she was still at a loss and felt anxious when she
heard the doctor saying these things.

“By the way.” The doctor suddenly called her, “There is something on the lab report that made me
puzzled. There is a trace element intake in Mr. Downey’s blood that is clearly abnormal. Does he take
health supplements regularly?”

“What’s wrong?” Hayden stood still, a bit puzzled, “Is there anything wrong with taking health
supplements? There are many health supplements at home.”

should be eating a bit.

give you specific things that he can eat. When Mr. Downey wakes up, he must ask the doctor first if he
wants to eat anything.”

When Hayden walked out of the room, Alayna walked towards her and asked, “How was it?”

Hayden shook her head. She looked depressed.

Alayna hesitated for a few seconds and said, “Joseph just came here,”

Hearing her words, Hayden froze for a moment, looking at the packing box that Alayna was carrying in
her hand without saying anything.



“He came with the packing box, and I felt embarrassed to refuse him, but I said you were in a bad
mood, so I asked him to leave first.”

“Hmm.”

Hayden frowned. She didn’t want to see Joseph at all at this time.

“But Chelsea went after him.”

Hearing Alayna’s sentence, she raised her head and her expression changed slightly, “Why did she go
after him?”

“I don’t know.”

Alayna shook her head and said tentatively, “Why don’t you go after them and have a look?”

Hayden took two quick steps and suddenly recalled something. Then, she slowed down her steps.

“What’s wrong?”

“Never mind, just let her do whatever she wants to do, it’s not important.”

After saying that, Hayden turned around and walked towards the ICU.

Alayna sighed helplessly, then she carried a bunch of food and chased after her.

In a café near the hospital…

“One cup of cappuccino please,”

Chelsea looked at the menu and surveyed Joseph from top to toe. “What are you drinking?”



“Plain water.”

His attitude was cold and this ‘plain water’ actually showed that he didn’t want to talk to her too much.

After giving the order to the waiter, Chelsea lifted the corner of her lips, revealing a smile that she
thought was decent.

“I heard that Mr. Beckham broke up with my sister? It is normal for a couple to break up, not to mention
that my sister had been spoiled since she was young and has always had a bad temper, so it’s hard for
anyone to get along with her, so I think it’s not your fault that you two broke up.”

“Is that so? Is that the purpose you brought me here?

“Of course it’s more than that, although I’m not quite clear of the reason why you two broke up, there’s
something I feel I need to remind you of, lest you feel you have been tricked and implicate the rest of
the Downey’s family.”

Chelsea looked at Joseph, “Do you know why my sister went overseas last
time?”
