Chapter 189: Alayna, Let’s get Married

In the mailbox, there was an email from the assistant, Magnus.

There was an electronically scanned copy of marriage certificate, with two signatures and notarized
time on it. Another thing was a copy of the current marriage status for US citizens, and followed by
some family photos. It also came with an attachment about Edison’s resume.

He graduated from St. York University, started a business by his own. He then became a leading
designer and in just three years, he started from a small clothing company and it eventually grew into a
listed company. Now, he owned a global top 500 listed company. Hence, his resume was quite good.

Even Joseph had to admit that he was an excellent guy.

And what made Joseph couldn’t accept was that Edison had nothing when Hayden got together with
him. On the Valentine’s Day four years ago, they registered their marriage in the US. He couldn’t find
any other reason to explain why she married this man who had nothing at that time. The only reason
would be because of love.

Plus, they did not divorce until today.

The room was terribly quiet. It was so quiet that it seemed to be possible to hear the water dripping
sound in the bathroom, where the faucet was not tightly closed.

After a long time, a loud sound was heard. “Bang!”

The large office computer was smashed on the floor and created a loud sound, followed by a variety of
dark coloured folders and heavy books. The red wine glass was smashed on the wall, leaving a bloody
red mark. The glass shattered into pieces at the corner of the wall and reflected cold beams of light.

Almost in an instance, the entire study room turned into a ruin.



“Sir…”

The housekeeper, who came because of the sounds, stood at the door and saw the scene. Her face
turned white out of frightening, “This is…”

“Get out…”

“Sir, your hand…”

“Get out!”

His furious voice rushed into the eardrums of the housekeeper. All of a sudden, thunder clapped loudly
outside the window, and rain started to fall heavily on the window pane. The flash of the lightning shone
on Joseph’s face like an abyssal ghost, he looked extremely gloomy. The housekeeper was so
frightened that her face turned pale. She stumbled and closed the door hurriedly, and then she left in
haste.

In the centre of the ruin, Joseph held a gloomy face. Pieces of crushed glass were still in his flesh. His
slender fingers had blood dripping from it and onto the ground, drop by drop. Soon, the blood clotted
and turned into black blood stain.

“Hayden’s father is awake, right?”

Kevin held an umbrella and sent Alayna to downstairs, “How about that camping trip we mentioned
earlier? Let’s arrange a time for it. We’ve been dragging on for a long time.”

“I’ll ask Hayden tomorrow. There should be no problem. After all, the doctor said that her father’s
condition is quite stable now. If he recovers properly, it won’t be a problem for him to live for another
few years.”



“Live for another few years?” Kevin looked at her in astonishment, “Are these words used to comfort
people? Hayden had been listening to these words from you all this time?”

“What’s wrong with it?” Alayna gave him a disdainful glance, “Haven’t you heard before that the good
or bad will get what they deserve in the end? Her father did not take care of his family when he was
young. He was out there getting into trouble and caused Hayden lost her mother since birth. And if her
grandpa had not died, he wouldn’t have taken her back to live with him.”

"Her father was good to her, wasn't he? You can't make a statement based on the past, it's all about the
previous generation."

"Stop it, I dislike hearing this.” Alayna said with an indignation face, “The problems from the previous
generation can only be considered the end if it didn’t affect the next generation. Based on the fact that
Brook clearly knew that the woman was the one who killed Hayden’s mother but he still married her, he
is not worthy for the sympathy.”

Kevin was not surprised.

He had heard about the things about the Downey family. Initially, he knew nothing about it. But because
Hayden was a friend of Alayna, he did some investigations, so that he had some preparations in his
heart. Moreover, this case about the Downey family had appeared on the news at that time. In the era
of paper media, the things that sent out were physical newspapers and magazines. There was no way
to retract the news.

The case was about a pregnant mistress came to the door of the Downey family. She caused the wife
to give birth prematurely, and before the wife was sent to the hospital, she died. At last, the child was
finally delivered by Caesarean section and stayed alive. This incident had become a hot topic in the
public.



This matter had happened until this extent, it was impossible to say that Brook didn’t know or suspect
anything at all. However, he still married the mistress and left his daughter, who fortunately stayed
alive, to his deceased wife’s mother house. He only took her back after many years.

“Everything he did was because of guilt, he wanted to compensate and released himself from guilt.
Although he compensated, the damage he caused to Hayden’s childhood was irreversible. He made
Hayden’s childhood and teenage life like a pawn in a game.”

Alayna had a cold face, she snickered, “They’re all bad guys.”

Hayden’s eldest aunt, who was the wife of her mother’s elder brother, was her mother, Florence’s best
friend. Florence was a soft and weak tempered woman, but her aunt’s temper was tough. After
Florence died, everyone thought that she would treat Hayden as her own daughter. However, who
would have thought that she had coldly left Hayden to her grandfather for many years. After her
grandfather died, she drove Hayden out of the house.

Hayden then understood the meaning behind her aunt’s action after many years. Her aunt was not
willing to let Brook lived his own free life and forgot about his tragically died wife, who had been going
through ups and downs with him back then. So, she deliberately sent Hayden to him to remind him
about his wrongdoings.

Her aunt clung on it for many years. Now, she had learnt to let go. She no longer forced Hayden to live
with Brook. Then, she started to give Hayden the long awaited sense of belonging.

Alayna was not involved, she even didn’t witness all the pain and struggles that Hayden had been gone
through, but she knew and understood more than anyone else in the world. She pitied Hayden as if she
went through all that.

Her stubbornness and firm expression fell into the eyes of Kevin, which made his heart fluttered.



What a good girl she was. He believed that he wouldn’t have the chance to meet another girl like her
for the rest of his life. His heart was attached to her and he couldn’t wait to hand his heart over to her.

“Alayna, let’s get married.”

The night was pouring with rain. Under the umbrella, there came Kevin’s calm and firm voice.

The ring was in his suit pocket for half a month. He was waiting for the right moment, the moment that
made his heart fluttered so that he could show all his passion to her without any reservation.

Alayna froze for a moment. She subconsciously took a step back, and rain started to hit her back.

Kevin immediately reached his umbrella over to block the rain behind her, and his other hand reached
into his suit pocket.

“Don’t take it out.”

Alayna spoke suddenly, her voice stopped his movement.

“Kevin, if you take it out now, we will not see each other ever again.”

Kevin looked stunned, as if he did not believe what he had heard.

“Alayna, you…”

“It’s too late now, we talked too much today, and you also think too much. I’m going home, you should
leave earlier too.”

Alayna spoke quickly, like she was in a hurry to end something. She was about to leave after finished
talking, but her wrist was grabbed by Kevin.



“Let go of me.”

“ALAYNA COLE!” Kevin used a stern attitude towards her and refused to let go of her wrist. “What are
you hiding from? You clearly know that I love you. I quit smoking, drinking, girls and fighting for you. No
matter what you want, as long as you tell me, whether I can do it or not, I will go and do it for you
without another word. But I only have one request, please marry me.”
