Chapter 227: The Friendship for Life

Instantly, he felt cold from head to toe. The last trace of warmth in Joseph’s eyes vanished. He looked
at Hayden with his icy gaze. Coldness covered his expressionless face, and he said, word by word,
“Say it one more time.”

“I can say it for another ten times, and I won’t change my mind. If you dare to hurt Edison, hurt me as
well.” Hayden said firmly. Her gaze had shown her disappointment towards Joseph.

She even began to doubt that how could she possibly fell for a petty guy like him. He was a deep-
minded, pretentious and proud man. He even treated human life like weeds by the roadside.

Joseph clenched his fists until his joints creak. His words squeezed out from his teeth, “Your friendship
for life is really touching. That’s what you call ordinary friend. You’re so good in acting.”

Hayden frowned and did not try to defend herself.

Joseph thought that she had nothing to say, and sneered, “But don’t you think it’s ridiculous to threaten
me with yourself? Who do you think you are?”

Although she knew that most of his words were because of anger, she couldn’t help to feel
disappointed about him. She looked straight into his eyes and asked without any hope, “I am curious
too, who am I to you?”

“You’re just a fixed sex partner provisionally.”

The reality was always cruel. His sharp words pierced her heart like a sharp knife. His words also
viciously hurt her eardrums. She clenched her fist tightly, hoping to give him a punch on the face.
However, she found that she does not have the strength to do so. He was the man she treated
sincerely with all her heart, but he treated her as a ‘sex partner’.



She had always been proud of her self-esteem, but he trampled it on the ground. He embarrassed her
openly where everyone could see how ashamed she was.

“Joseph Beckham, I had been expecting too much from you. In addition to that, I also had some
misunderstanding about your personality previously.” Edison’s voice sounded at the right timing. His
words broke the stalemate. He unbuttoned his suit very naturally, and his face suddenly changed. As
fast as a lightning, he hit Joseph with a punch right on the face.

beside him.

were equal.

While the sound of smashing the tables, chairs and benches was continuing, causing the scene to
become a complete chaos.On the other hand, Hayden could not react to the sudden change of the
situation at all. Before she could stop them, Joseph and Edison’s people had started a big fight.

Edison was an extreme sports enthusiast. His fighting skills and endurance were much stronger than
normal people, and soon got the upper hand.

Joseph received another punch. Accompanied with a loud smash, he knocked over a lamp which was
half a human’s height and fell on the ground in an embarrassing posture.

“Joseph!” Addison screamed and blocked in front of him. She yelled at Edison, “I called the police! My
brother and the police will be here soon.”

When he saw that she was a woman, Edison’s fist stopped in mid-air. His gaze moved between
Addison and Edison. At last, he gave a cold smile and said, “I never hit a woman.”



Joseph clutched his chest and did not say anything for a long time.

Edison was taunting him because he tried to threaten Hayden.

Edison even knew about these things. Hayden and he could talk about anything, including such
personal things. Edison wiped his hands with the towel on the table, and then saw Hayden’s pale
complexion. A trace of annoyance flashed in his eyes.

She must have been so frightened to watch such a scene.

“Hayden, let’s go.” His tone showed his concern about her. He held her shoulders as he said so.

The corner of Hayden’s eyes laid on Joseph to check on his condition. However, she saw the anxious
expression on Addison’s face. She seemed to be so gentle and concern about him. It was the kind of
tenderness that she couldn’t master. Originally, she only wanted to see how his wounds was, but
now… She gritted her teeth, turned away and never looked back.

The French restaurant turned into a disaster state after the fight. It looked like a mess in the battlefield,
with all those split tables, broken chairs and benches scattering all over the place.

It was impossible for Edison to go out without bringing his bodyguards. Hence, Hayden was not
surprised to him with his bodyguards and did not ask much about it. She directly followed him into the
car.

In the car, Stella was sitting in the car quietly eating pudding and watching cartoons.

Stella was really an innocent child. Children were those who could always live in their own world
without any interference no matter what happened outside.

“Since you didn’t finish your meal, I’ll bring you to another place to eat.” Edison didn’t seem to be
disturbed by the incident just now. His focus was on the meal that she had not finished.



Hayden had lost her appetite, so she shook her head and said, “It’s okay, I’m full. Send Stella to my
aunt’s place. I have to go back to the office later. I need to talk to the designers about the sample
clothes at night.”

Edison didn’t say much. He just said ‘okay’ and told the driver to drive.

After that day, Hayden and Joseph hadn’t contacted nor met again for half a month.

Hayden was busy making the sample clothes for the first day of Green Lemon Clothing’s opening. She
changed more than a dozen kinds of fabrics and the factories making the clothes. However, none of
them met the standards of Hayden’s expectations. She was not satisfied with any of them. However,
she was very particular about the quality of the fabrics and the craftmanship. This caused the
production to fail to follow the schedule on time.

In the end, Edison helped and contacted an Italian fabric manufacturer. They agreed to cooperate with
Green Lemon Clothing on one project first. They would provide the fabrics needed. And about the
craftmanship, thanks to the unremitting efforts of Dante, he managed to improvise the machines and
facilities in the factory.

Half a month later, Green Lemon Clothing’s first branded store opened as scheduled.

The store was in Starfish Mall. It was an excellent location. To celebrate the grand opening, a lot of
flower baskets were sent and placed at the door. Most of the flowers were from Hayden’s former
colleagues in ST Hotel.

The fact that she broke up with Joseph was no longer a secret. Hence, it was not convenient for them
to show up and join the grand opening. They sent baskets of flower to express their blessings and
Hayden understood them.



Edison was the first to come and brought a bouquet of flowers. He came earlier to congratulate her on
the opening of the new store. Lorraine had urged several times until Hayden could not stand it
anymore. Hayden also urged him to leave. At last, he left and hurry to deal with his own matters.

Just after she sent Edison away, Hayden saw a figure wearing navy blue outfit standing beside the
door. After she looked clearly, she was stunned for a moment.

That person had come in, carrying a very low-key but luxurious navy-blue gift-box. He handed it to
Hayden with a smile on his face, “Miss Downey, congratulations on the opening a new store.”

Kevin looked at her with a smile, and said, “Are you not expecting me to come? Just look at your
expression, you seemed to be a little awkward.”

Hayden frowned and denied it, “I just thought that you will be too busy taking care of Alayna and will
not have time to come over. Don’t think too much.”

“I’m not thinking too much.”

Kevin followed Hayden and walked around the large store. He asked casually, “But I’m quite curious,
who is Stella’s biological father?”
